Season 2, Episode 6 of Prime Video’s Invincible has surely got fans excited as it teased a major crossover possibility with The Walking Dead. As the show remains independent from other franchises, viewers who have read the comics certainly know the real deal.
The arrival of Angstrom Levy in the sequel installment just made the show even more thrilling, bringing in the potential of seeing a world where the heroes from the Invincible universe tackle the zombie-filled post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead.
Did Fans Just Watch An Invincible/The Walking Dead Crossover?
Not to burst the audience’s bubble, but an interview with series creator Robert Kirkman via Bam Smack Pow confirmed that this particular scene from Invincible is not a Walking Dead crossover – yet.
“No, I specifically had them speaking and saying ‘brains’ so that it would be clear that it wasn’t the Walking Dead universe, but I should have done more. I should have had them shooting lasers out of their eyes or something because I think people still think it’s the Walking Dead universe.”
A lot of fans actually thought this alternate zombie universe that Angstrom Levy visits in the second season of Invincible is the world where Rick Grimes exists. Indeed, the walkers shared a resemblance with the undead from the zombie franchise.
Kirkman might have refuted the idea, but a crossover between Invincible and The Walking Dead is not a novel or bizarre concept. It has happened in the comics, and it could happen in television.
For those who aren’t familiar, Kirkman co-created both The Walking Dead and Invincible, so helming a crossover episode does not seem too far-fetched of an idea. It might involve some tricky issues on the rights, though, as both franchises belong to different studios.
Angstrom Levy Might Be The Key To A Crossover
In his interview with IGN, Kirkman explained Angstrom Levy’s extent of powers and his ability to traverse through different dimensions. At this point, he revealed they are still exploring the multiverse, which could also be taken as a hint on his upcoming plans for the franchise.
“I think if Angstrom Levy’s the backbone villain, I think that that’s his core story. I don’t think that we lean on it too heavily, and I also want to stress that we’re exploring the multiverse in a much different way. I think that there’s no end of movies and TV shows that are exploring that right now.”
In Season 2, viewers will follow the antagonist on his journey as he tries to utilize this power in ways that would possibly get corrupted over time. This is expected to put Angstrom Levy in a clash with the characters of Invincible.
On another note, Kirkman is very much open to getting a faithful animated adaptation of The Walking Dead, though he does not know what AMC might think of the idea.
At this point, it is difficult to tell whether fans will get their much-anticipated crossover, but anything is possible, especially after the creator expressed interest in prolonging the series.
Invincible is now streaming on Prime Video.
