The world of animation has literally no bounds. An animated show can be as brutal or violent as the creator’s imagination or as dreamy as Disney. J.K. Simmons knows this fact better than most since he voices the character of Omni-Man in the iconic animated TV show Invincible.
It is the belief of J.K. Simmons (and us too) that animations have no restraints. While talking about Invincible and how the character of Omni-Man is quite an iconic one, Simmons revealed that he hasn’t read ahead much in the source material. Although primary research about one’s character is a good thing when voicing or acting… J.K. Simmons has a fair reason for not reading ahead!
J.K. Simmons Hasn’t Read Far Ahead About Omni-Man For Invincible!
Voicing the nigh-indestructible hero, J.K. Simmons had quite a fun time during his voicing of Omni-Man. Alongside Simmons, the world also enjoys the Whiplash actor’s voice as the mustached superhero.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Simmons talked about Part 2 of the second season of Invincible. During his talks, the actor revealed that he hasn’t read far ahead about Omni-Man in the source material (the comic books). Citing his reason, Simmons seemed to state that there is a hint of chaos in not knowing what’s going to happen next!
“I haven’t read ahead in the source much. I’ve learned some things, and I obviously did research at the beginning, because I wasn’t familiar with the world, but I try to avoid, even myself, knowing what the future brings, beyond what, obviously, we’ve already recorded, and beyond knowing that we will indeed have a third season.”
He further continued,
“It’s honestly just a constant case of riding a runaway train, with the complete lack of restraints that the creators have in this world of animation that they’ve established. We can literally do whatever we want [chuckles] — well, I shouldn’t even say we, they, and then we, the cast, are the vessels that just are kind of hanging on for the ride.”
As the interview further progressed, J.K. Simmons revealed that he is the captain of the anti-spoiler brigade and that he enjoys surprises as much as the next guy. Comparing himself to an audience member, J.K. Simmons seemed to get the meaning of living in a spoiler-free environment!

Well, the curiosity for what happens with your favorite characters is indeed a real problem. People must have heard the phrase “Curiosity killed the cat” but it seems that J.K. Simmons saved it by not spoiling or giving anything away about season 3 of Invincible!
“Well, I’m the captain of the anti-spoiler brigade, so I actually enjoy it. [Laughs] I kind of relish that, knowing that an audience is building anticipation. I enjoy that as an audience [member myself], you know, with the shows that my wife, and sometimes kids, and I watch together, or a feature film is coming out.”
He further continued,
“I’m big on avoiding trailers and watching stories unfold. Because that, to me, that’s the joy of being an audience for anything, whether it’s adult animation like this, or live feature, wacky comedy, whatever it is.”
With two seasons to its name, Invincible received a rating of 8.7/10 on IMDB and a whopping 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Having season 3 in development, the 2021 Amazon original series is available to stream on Prime Video in the U.S.
