J.K. Simmons has embodied as well as voiced a considerable number of renowned characters, and that of Omni-Man in the Invincible saga still ranks as one of his best ones to date. Yet as much as fans love his voice behind the character in their favorite superhero animated series, Simmons isn’t willing to reprise his role in a live-action project.
Instead, the 69-year-old actor strongly believes he could be a much better option to play one other character; one more inclined to the supervillain panel than his current character. And as much as fans want him to reprise his role, they also can’t help but admit that his playing a supervillain wouldn’t be a far reach for him either.
J.K. Simmons’ Strong Take on Who He Could Play in Invincible Live-Action
With the Invincible live-action project currently in the works following the tremendous success of the animated series, there has been a lot of buzz about who could play what. That being said, J.K. Simmons was widely anticipated to reprise his role as Omni-Man.
However, the Spider-Man actor seems to have contrasting thoughts on this situation. If anything, he is strictly against him playing Nolan Grayson in a non-animated movie. And as much as we hate to admit it, his reasoning behind this is kind of understandable.
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, while promoting Part 2 of the second season of the super popular animated series, Simmons shared his take on this very matter, all the while revealing who he believes could be more suited to play Nolan.
“Absolutely not,” Simmons said. “I don’t think Omni Man should be played by a 69-year-old. […] I mean, the first two guys I’m thinking of are Ryan Reynolds and… I mean, you’re thinking of the buff guy… Here’s who needs to play Omni Man… Hugh Jackman.”
At the same time, he didn’t completely cancel the idea of him returning to the saga. Instead, the Justice League actor strongly feels he could portray another character. As he continued to share his thoughts:
“I mean, again, as far as I know, it’s only rumors. It’s only rumblings that a live action film would even happen. But maybe there’s a cameo for me as the leader of the Viltrumites in a flashback or something.”
Considering how he said he could play the leader of the Viltrumites in a flashback, there is a very likely chance that he was referring to Emperor Argall, judging from how he was the Viltrum Empire’s first emperor and the Viltrumites’ leader.
That being said, the prospect of seeing Simmons as Argall doesn’t seem all too bad. If anything, it would be a great chance to see him as a supervillain, especially one as vicious as the Emperor of the Viltrum Empire. And guess what? Fans agree with us!
Fans are also Entertaining the Idea of J.K. Simmons as Argall
While some may argue that the idea of seeing Simmons as Lord Argall seems a bit too far-fetched, quite a few other fans are already entertaining the idea of seeing the beloved 69-year-old legend in the villainous role.
If anything, some of them are even looking forward to seeing him in an iconic scene as Argall fighting with whoever gets cast in the role of Nolan Grayson! All in all, they are expressing their takes on X as follows:

J K Simmons as Lord Argall or MAYBE Conquest would be some heat
But Jon Hamm would be the people's Omni-Man – unless he declined— ROBOKAIR99 | Nat (@OKAIROBO99io) March 17, 2024
J.K. Simmons as Emperor Argall seems like a fair trade as long as Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the one playing Omni-Man in return 😌👍

Well, for what it’s worth, just the mere thought of seeing J.K. Simmons in the role of the very villain that he fought while voicing Omni-Man sounds incredibly interesting. But considering how these events are yet to be confirmed, let’s wait and see how everything eventually turns out to be!
Invincible animated series can be streamed on Prime Video.
