One of the most important characters from the comics that the second season of Invincible introduces is Thaedus, the mastermind behind the Coalition of Planets. Voiced by the legendary Peter Cullen, the character made his debut in the third episode of the second season and has already changed the course of the show with one key element. Spoilers ahead.

The second season of Invincible followed the aftermath of Nolan Grayson’s reveal that he was a Viltrumite infiltrator who was sent to conquer Earth as a colony of the Viltrum Empire. Apart from the protagonist Mark Grayson a.k.a Invincible, and Omni-Man Nolan Grayson, many new characters such as Angstrom Levy, Lucan, Kregg, and King Lizard were introduced.

Among those, the leader of the Coalition of Planets, Thaedus is probably one of the most interesting and the most important characters. In Invincible Comics by Robert Kirkman, he is introduced as a rebellious ex-Viltrumite who finds tyranny in the colonizing policy of the Viltrum Empire and slays Emperor Argall. He then leaves to find the Coalition of Planets to help defend any planet from Viltrum attacks.

Thaedus has a notable ally in the form of Allen the Alien, a Unopan, who is trained to be a threat to the Viltrumites. He also becomes close to Mark Grayson, who Allen finds to be supportive of the rebellion against the Viltrumites. He then goes to begin the Viltrumite War and joins Nolan Grayson, Mark Grayson, and many others in the war (via Fandom).

Thaedus makes an appearance as the leader of the Coalition of Planets in the second season of Invincible. He is introduced in season 2’s third episode ‘This Missive, This Machination’ and is seen sending Allen the Alien on a chase to find the Viltrum mole in the Coalition. However, the end of the episode also reveals his ulterior motives.

After Allen the Alien is sent to find out about the mole who is feeding sensitive information about the Coalition to the Viltrum Empire, he is attacked by a few Viltrumites who beat him to the verge of death. Allen is then rescued and brought back to Coalition to heal. While he is recovering in the life pod, Thaedus enters and removes the energy source of the pod seemingly killing Allen.

Much like the comics, Thaedus is also a Viltrumite rebel who founded the Coalition of Planets. Though he does not reveal he is a Viltrumite at first, he finally removes his beard to reveal the fact to Allen the Alien in the fifth episode of the second season. Thaedus mentions to a buffed-up Allen that he had tried to end the Unopan’s life in the life pod as he feared that he was not ready to fight the Viltrumites. He then speaks about how he is a Viltrum rebel and tells the back story that matches the comics.

While the recent episode ends with Thaedus being introduced to the existence of Mark Grayson, who he believes to also be a rebel, it is still not clear if he is indeed the good guy as in the comics. His intentions still seem to be suspicious as the reason he tells for almost killing Allen the Alien is unconvincing.
