In the midst of a falling MCU, Marvel Studios has some bold decisions to make and storylines to revamp if it wants to stay relevant. Seeing the underwhelming responses it’s last year’s projects received, with The Marvels being a box office bomb, Marvel fans have been understandably worried about the superhero realm’s future.
This worry and concern is more evident since the studio is rebooting one of the most fan-favorite Marvel characters of recent years, Daredevil. Starring Charlie Cox as the underdog, his inclusion in the MCU is exciting enough but diehard fans have been hoping Marvel does not mess it up as it did with Captain Marvel in The Marvels or many others before her. Yet if the recent interview with Marvel’s head of streaming is true, Kevin Feige has a trump card up his sleeve that might just save the MCU.
Kevin Feige’s Trump Card Might Save The MCU With Daredevil: Born Again
Charlie Cox as Daredevil has been a definite hit for Marvel and now fans can hardly wait to see him return. But fans have been worried about Marvel Studios not being able to get the narrative right as well as Cox’s Netflix series did (see Reddit). And the show’s creative overhaul, reshoots, and getting new helmers (see THR) have been enough to amplify this worry.
Yet it seems not all is lost if Brad Winderbaum‘s (Marvel Studios Head of Streaming) words are true. As per Winderbaum, the studio, inspired by the overwhelming success of Loki and the experience of the soon-to-be-released X-Men’97 played a crucial role in revamping Cox’s upcoming MCU show.
In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Winderbaum stated,
“Loki is one of our most fulfilled characters… So [Loki’s success] is not lost on us, and it has influenced our storytelling like any success has… And I’d certainly say that’s true with Daredevil: Born Again as well, which went through a bit of a reinvention after the strike. Frankly, a lot of that was influenced as much from Loki as it was from our X-Men ’97 experience. It’s about honoring what came before in order to find a new arc for these iconic characters.”
Adding on how he is pretty excited for what’s to come, Winderbaum’s comment indicates that after all Kevin Feige was right to pull the strings on Daredevil: Born Again and revamp it. Not only is Feige’s approach of respecting the legacy of these characters in line with the fans’ demands, but his trump card will certainly help in potentially changing the MCU dynamics and engagement for good.
Daredevil: Born Again Inspired Marvel to Include the Defenders Saga into the MCU
While we are talking about the MCU and Kevin Feige’s approach to respecting the legacy of characters like Daredevil, it is hard to ignore the happy news that is the inclusion of the Defenders Saga into the MCU. Not only would this lead to a more streamlined narrative but will also ensure a more cohesive and immersive experience with the Netflix series serving as the yet-to-be-released series’ foundation.
While talking to THR, Brad Winderbaum revealed how it was initially hard to include the Defenders Saga given the complicated nature of MCU during Phase 3 and later on. However, including all the titles on Disney+ made it easier for the studio to arrange the shows as per the existing timeline. This move was further facilitated by the development of Daredevil: Born Again.
While researching and going back into the backstory of the Netflix shows during the development of Charlie Cox’s upcoming series, the studio understood how necessary it would be to include the saga in the MCU.
With Daredevil: Born Again, the inclusion of the Defenders Saga, and Kevin Feige’s approach to respecting the legacy of these characters, coupled with Brad Winderbaum’s enthusiasm for what’s to come, it won’t be wrong to say that the future of the MCU is in good hands.
Daredevil: Born Again is expected to be released in 2025.
