Before his appearance as the rebellious fighter pilot in the Star Wars franchise, Oscar Isaac had minor roles and a few supporting roles in mid-level films. He was a theater actor and had his first leading role in the biblical film The Nativity Story. After featuring in minor roles, he had his breakthrough with the film Drive, in which he had a prominent supporting role.

Isaac then appeared in films like The Bourne Legacy, Sucker Punch, and the Coen Brothers-directed Inside Llewyn Davis, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. He then starred in Alex Garland’s sci-fi film Ex Machina.

Isaac was then cast in the iconic role of Poe Dameron in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars. Intended to be based on Han Solo, Isaac was apparently supposed to be killed off early in The Force Awakens but director JJ Abrams was so impressed with the actor that he decided to keep him for the rest of the trilogy.

Oscar Isaac’s Poe is an X-wing fighter pilot part of the Resistance and teams up with John Boyega and Daisey Ridley’s characters to fight Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. Isaac’s portrayal was received positively by critics and fans, with many calling him the heart of the story. He was often compared to Han Solo and he reprised the role in the next two films.

In an interview with Collider during the promotions for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, actor Oscar Isaac spoke about his love for the franchise as well as some of the experiences he had while filming. He mentioned that his favorite film in the franchise was Return of the Jedi, due to it being the first film he ever saw at the cinemas, much to the ridicule of John Boyega.

The actor also revealed the best and worst moments from the sets. Talking about his best moment while filming was when his uncle got a chance to be an extra in the film as he was a huge Star Wars fan. 

Isaac also revealed the worst moment on set, which was when he had an accident that caused him to bleed from his face and resulted in a half-hour halt of the shoot. He said,

“I was supposed to, like, get my cannon out, my rifle, and follow a bad guy and shoot him. And then, after the first take, J.J. said, ‘Hey can you just do the recoil of the laser shooting out?’…And in the very next take, I just hit myself really hard in the nose with the cannon. And then it’s just sort of bleeding from up here. Then we had to take a half-hour just to stop the blood from coming out. And then cover it up with makeup. That was not a fun day.”

While the accident did cause temporary discomfort for the actor, the shoot was not held up for long and the crew resumed shooting soon.
