Amid all the controversy about how James Gunn seemingly sacrificed The CW’s Superman & Lois series just because Superman: Legacy will soon be hitting the market, Gunn is trying his best to win fans’ hearts back. In order to do this and keep their anticipation, he is taking to his social media handles to share updates about the upcoming film every now and then.
One of these recent updates saw the co-CEO of DC Studios sharing a selfie from the sets of the 2025 scheduled film. This picture included the confirmed cast and crew of Superman: Legacy along with James Gunn and Peter Safran themselves. But this picture has also ostensibly leaked a huge spoiler about the movie, or to be more precise, about Lex Luthor’s look.
James Gunn’s Recent Post Reveals Lex Luthor’s Look
A considerable amount of DC fans were quite displeased when it was revealed that it was James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy (a movie that isn’t even guaranteed to be a hit) that put an abrupt end to one of the most successful TV shows of all time, Superman & Lois, because the film would be hitting the market soon.
Thus, in an attempt to win those displeased fans back and seemingly reassure them that Superman: Legacy would not be a disappointment, the co-CEO of DC Studios has started sharing updates about the film through his social media. But through one of these updates, he has more than just won fans’ anticipation back.
In a recent photo that he shared on almost all his socials (this one is taken from Instagram), Gunn and Peter Safran are seen standing with the rest of the Superman: Legacy cast and crew as they all pose for a selfie. While through this, fans got acquainted with who they were going to see in the film, what further caught most’s attention was Nicholas Hoult‘s Lex Luthor’s look.
As can be seen in the photo, a completely bald Hoult is giving a wide grin to the camera while Peter Safran clicks the picture. This photo has been widely going viral because of this very reason: Lex Luthor is seemingly going to be bald right from the beginning, meaning that it would not be repeating the same mistakes that the DCEU did.
The DCEU’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice saw Jesse Eisenberg in the role of Lex Luthor, though this one portrayal and appearance was hardly what fans were expecting. In the film, Eisenberg’s Luthor had long hair that didn’t get chopped off until the end of the film, which induced a lot of fan backlash.
However, under James Gunn‘s supervision, it seems that Lex Luthor will finally be given justice. Not only does Nicholas Hoult’s appearance as Superman’s arch-nemesis look incredibly baffling in a good way, but he looks way more intimidating even while not in character as compared to what Eisenberg’s Luthor looked throughout the film.
Meanwhile, other people in the photo include David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).
Fans Are Expressing Their Excitement Over Nicholas Hoult’s Bald Lex Luthor
While the photo in itself looks like a cheerful masterpiece that has gotten fans once again excited for Superman: Legacy, what they are even more exhilarated about is the fact that Nicholas Hoult has already shaved his head bald to dive completely into the role of Lex Luthor.
Taking to X, here’s how they are sharing their excited reactions to the same:

Huh, just realised that's two X-Men First Class actors reunited, and despite the shaved head one of them isn't Xavier. Hope Luthor doesn't have a wig or hair again. 😁

Judging from how the events are looking right now, it seems that James Gunn is doing a good job at winning back fans’ anticipation for Superman: Legacy!
Superman: Legacy will reportedly hit the theatres by the 11th of July, 2025.
