The cameras have finally started rolling for James Gunn‘s first film in the DCU. The Suicide Squad director earlier announced the movie’s title as Superman: Legacy. However, he now revealed that the name, which was given after he finished the first draft, has been changed to SUPERMAN after locking the final draft of the script. James Gunn noted on Instagram:

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.”

James Gunn also confirmed that the film will reach the audience in July 2025, as promised by the DC CEO and WB earlier. Along with the caption, Gunn also gave fans a glimpse at the SUPERMAN logo. Fans noticed the snow effect on the logo and speculated that The Fortress of Solitude would be featured significantly in the film. Some began speculating on the importance of the location in the film.

In the comics, Superman’s Fortress of Solitude is located in the Arctic. The fortress is built away from civilization so that Superman can use it as a place of solace or occasionally as headquarters. Kal-El learns about his true Kryptonian identity, heritage, and his purpose on Earth in this place. The Fortress’s trademark feature is the statue of Kal-El’s parents, Jor-El and Lara, holding a globe of Krypton.

The Fortress of Solitude also contains a laboratory where Superman works on various projects involving kryptonite. The place has made appearances in Richard Donner‘s Superman films, Bryan Singer‘s Superman Returns, Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel, and other DCEU films. Fans started speculating what kind of design James Gunn would adopt for the fortress in his SUPERMAN.

The classic Superman villain Lex Luthor will appear in the film, portrayed by an immensely talented Nicholas Hoult.

Other confirmed cast members of the film include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.
