Recent reports suggest that for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s next team-up outing, Jennifer Garner may be in talks to star in it. News of the impending crime thriller ‘Animals,’ slated to release on Netflix, surfaced last month. It was said that the Justice League alum would be at the helm, with Damon putting his acting chops on display.
What was being touted as another classic on-screen reunion between the long-time friends now boasts an intriguing (potential) addition to the cast.
The actress is reportedly still in negotiations to grace the initiative. The deal is yet to be finalized. However, if everything goes as planned, she may star alongside Damon in a movie about kidnapping. Although Affleck and Garner, previously married for 13 years, have collaborated on three films as co-actors, this would mark the first time (if finalized) the Yes Day alum gets directed by her former partner.
Jennifer Garner In Negotiations To Star In Ben Affleck’s Upcoming Netflix Thriller
According to THR, Jennifer Garner‘s upcoming acting stint may mark a collaboration between the 51-year-old actress, her former husband Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon.
As mentioned, although nothing has been confirmed, the actress is in negotiations to star opposite the Oppenheimer alum in the forthcoming Netflix crime thriller ‘Animals,’ which could reportedly take to production in March if everything falls into place. Besides helming the initiative, Affleck will also be producing it alongside Damon through their co-launched Artists Equity studio.
Billy Ray has made revisions to the premise penned by Connor McIntyre. The crime thriller is set to revolve around a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son gets kidnapped. The narrative will reportedly follow the couple as they risk everything and “get their hands dirty” to save their son in the face of adversaries within and beyond the political context. With Matt Damon as the candidate, Garner would presumably play the wife.
Many have raised their eyebrows at the news of the Family Switch alum reuniting with Affleck on the collaborative front. Some even described it as a headline that makes one do a double-take. Previously, before their marriage, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck starred in three endeavors together, namely, Pearl Harbor (2001), Daredevil (2003), and Elektra (2005).
The former couple tied the knot in 2005. They remained wedded for 13 years before they divorced in 2018. The two Hollywood stars share three children, and reports of their “mature” and amicable co-parenting skills have gained traction quite a number of times.
If the deal is finalized, ‘Animals’ would mark a professional reunion between Affleck and Garner after almost two decades. For Damon, this is just one more initiative in a lengthy career of collaborations with his lifelong friend. Air (2023) was their last project together.
Will Jennifer Garner Reprise Her Role As Elektra In Deadpool & Wolverine?
Jennifer Garner is expected to pick up Elektra’s iconic signature weapon again in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, previously colloquially known as Deadpool 3.
Last year, THR exclusively reported that the 51-year-old actress could return to a CBM stint and reprise her role as the highly trained Sai-wielding assassin after her last solo outing in the titular Elektra (2005). Despite being a critical and financial disaster, the movie is reputed for being the first film adaptation of a Marvel Comics IP with a female lead.
The reports initially intrigued many, with people wondering in which context the actress’ role would come into play, but given the multiversal angle, anything is possible. It must, however, be noted that Garner coyly dismissed the possibility that she was involved in the third Deadpool movie when questioned about it. She was asked if she ever thought she’d wear the Elektra suit again in an interview with Collider.
Following was her response:
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. What could you mean?”
When the interviewer mentioned the possibility of her ‘hypothetically’ starring in Deadpool & Wolverine, Jennifer Garner replied, “Not that I’m aware of.”
This could be a classic Andrew Garfield-before-the-release-of-No-Way-Home case. Or it could be the truth. Nevertheless, it is highly expected for the star to make a cameo as Elektra in the upcoming MCU film. Besides Garner, Taylor Swift was also previously rumored as one of the potential candidates likely to make a surprise appearance.
Only the film’s release can quench the audience’s thirst for the answers to these speculations.
Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled to be released on July 26, 2024.
