Following a 2016 meetup at the Met Gala, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn made their relationship public, a year down the line. While most of their personal proceedings were private, the couple did make several notable public appearances as well as collaborated in songs like Betty and Evermore, with the latter credited under the pseudonym of William Bowery. Yet, the roses soon withered with them parting ways in 2023.
Now, in his first address on the issue, The Favorite actor spoke to The Sunday Times Style and ensured that he was “fully committed” throughout the span of their relationship.
I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.
The comments hold importance given that the Wildest Dreams singer has more or less hinted at being cheated upon by him with lyrics to her songs mentioning the likes of “And I broke down crying, was she worth the mess?” and “‘cause you were never mine”.
The 33-year-old also labeled the ordeal a “hard thing to navigate”, considering popular public opinion going against him even when his side of the story was yet to surface. Finally, reasoning for speaking out now, after months of the incident, he spoke of how the ex-couple had mutually agreed to keep discussions on such matters, private.
Social media gets torn apart as Joe Alwyn mentions an abnormality
In the same round of talks, Joe Alwyn also opened up on the rapid pace of news of his split with Taylor Swift fanning around. All of it simply made life hard for him after being “suddenly thrown into a very unreal space”.
Moreover, he also highlighted how the intense spotlight on the breakup from news outlets and tabloids affected him as the truth got “ pulled out of shape beyond recognition”.
What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.
