Marvel’s hopes for a promising start in 2024 is already looking bleak with the dismal responses that Madame Web has been receiving. The Dakota Johnson-Sydney Sweeney starrer which opened in theaters on 16th February 2024, has been brutally panned by audiences and critics across the world for its indifference performances and listless storyline.
With the film now being available on various streaming platforms, there is a fresh wave of trolling that is being directed towards the movie and the leading stars following a 9-minute clip preceding its streaming debut. Judging by the way netizens are ripping it apart, it looks like there is no redemption in sight for Johnson and Madame Web.
Madame Web Invites Fresh Backlash As it Hits Streaming Platforms
Right from the onset, the stars have not aligned for the Sony-Marvel universe and Madame Web. After a dismal opening weekend at the box office, this Dakota Johnson starrer failed to make strides over the next few weeks and sunk without a trace following brutal backlash from critics and audiences.
Marvel fans who had highly anticipated that the film would give the franchise a desperate facelift, are now convinced that nothing can save this disastrous result. To make matters even worse, the film which has now hit the streaming platforms, is inviting a fresh wave of criticism from fans.
In some scathing remarks, netizens left no stone unturned when they gave the film the dubious distinction of being one of the worst movies of all time. Some viewers even made a joke of it by urging more people to see the chaos for themselves.
Who wouldn't want to see a movie about a psychic spider-woman with a convoluted backstory and barely any connection to the actual Spider-Man mythos?

Believe it or not but this was around the time I fell asleep.

I really do believe that everyone should watch this movie. It's incredibly bad.

Let me guess: y’all gonna find some random scene in this shitty movie and try to defend it by saying “dOn’T kNoW wHy EvErYoNe HaTeS iT”.

While Marvel may have hoped that the film could resurrect itself on streaming platforms, it looks like the opposite is currently happening. It now remains to be seen how the franchise bounces back from this position with many other key projects yet to come in 2024.
Did Dakota Johnson Predict The Downfall Of Madame Web?
Dakota Johnson will probably be regretting her decision to sign up for Madame Web judging by the adverse reactions the movie has been getting. While the Fifty Shades of Grey star was expected to shine in her first superhero role, things have not panned out the way she wanted. But did the actor actually predict this outcome through her own trepidation?
From what the star insinuated during the promotions of the film, the visual and technical aspects of the Marvel project may have intimidated her a lot more than she expected. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly regarding the doubts she had about having done justice to the part, she stated,
“I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there’s fake explosions going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion. That to me was absolutely psychotic. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an OK job!’”
The Lost Daughter actor went on to add that she tried to compensate for her fears by working extremely hard with the blue screen to ensure that she was able to turn in a realistic performance. Unfortunately, her efforts have proved to be in vain.
Madame Web can be rented on Apple TV.
