A new rumor has taken over the internet that Marvel is reportedly making an Overwatch-style multiplayer game. The rumors state that the game will be titled Marvel Rivals and feature some of the most renowned and lesser-known characters from the superhero universe. Several prominent characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Punisher, and Magneto are rumored to be featured in the 6v6 multiplayer shooter game.
Recently Marvel enjoyed massive success when Insominac’s Spider-Man 2 broke multiple sales records and attracted widespread praise. They also have a lucrative line-up of games planned for the near future. Amidst that, a new Valorant-esque Marvel game can be a fascinating choice if executed well.
What do we know about Marvel Rivals yet?
Soon after its debut in 2016, Overwatch received universal acclaim and widespread love from the fans. It became the blueprint for multiplayer Hero Shooter games. Recently, an industry insider reported that Marvel also wants to ride on the popularity of Overwatch and Valorant and make a 6v6 Hero Shooter featuring the Marvel superheroes.
The insider, Kurakasis, wrote on X that NetEase is developing Marvel Rivals, an AAA multiplayer hero shooter in the Marvel Universe. He added that the game would borrow Valorant’s art style and is said to have two modes- Escort and King of the Hill. Environmental destruction is also reported to play an important part.

TheStreamr has reported that the game will feature a massive roster of Marvel characters like Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Magneto, Punisher, Thor, Peni Parker, Luna Snow, Namor, and many others. NetEase has previously worked with Marvel on two mobile games- Marvel Super War and Marvel Duel. However, the upcoming project is said to be a PC game.
While several fans were doubtful if the rumors were true, Marvel Games seemingly confirmed it by teasing a massive announcement. Marvel Games posted a photo with silhouettes of the Marvel heroes and captioned- “An evil experiment has caused a unique disruption in the timestream. Who will be pulled into this epic showdown?” Further in the post, they added that an exciting reveal will come at 8 AM PT/11 AM ET today.
It should be also noted that even though the fans expect something about Marvel Rivals in this major reveal, it may also be targeted to some other game.
Marvel Games has an interesting line-up planned ahead
Recently we saw how DC’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failed very hard due to several reasons. On the other side, Marvel Games is looking to have an incredible time after enjoying the success of the Insomniac’s Spider-Man series and an interesting line-up of upcoming games.
During the recently held State of Unreal showcase, Marvel unveiled a story trailer for their upcoming game featuring Captain America and Black Panther in a WWII setting. It is officially titled Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and will show how Steve Rogers and T’Challa’s grandfather, Azzuri try to prevent the rise of Hydra. Besides this WWII game, Insomniac Games is also making a Wolverine game for Marvel.
Marvel also revealed last year that they are making a bloody and mature game on Blade. Additionally, games on Iron Man and another game on Black Panther are also in development. If all the projects are handled well, Marvel will have an incredible gaming library ahead.
