Chris Pratt, one of the biggest movie stars in the world, has turned down some major movies in his career. One of the most notable is the 2022 action film Uncharted, which starred Mark Wahlberg and his Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Tom Holland.
Some fans may argue that Pratt made the right choice when he passed on Uncharted. Even though the movie brought in more than $400 million at the box office, it was met with mediocre reviews.
Chris Pratt Made Some Smart Decisions
Chris Pratt’s career went to a new level in 2014 when he starred in two wildly successful movies, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Lego Movie. Before that, most fans associated Pratt with his time on the beloved sitcom Parks and Recreation. However, once Pratt proved that moviegoers were willing to watch him on the big screen, the major movie studios suddenly lined up to offer him roles.
Sony offered him the chance to star in the much-anticipated video game adaptation, Uncharted. According to reports, Chris Pratt was asked to portray Nathan in the planned Uncharted adaptation but turned down the role. Director Seth Gordon was set to helm the Uncharted adaptation then, and he spoke about the kind of actor he wanted to hire for the film.
“I want it to be a great actor. That’s number one, and then if it’s someone who has an actual jaw, that’s even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There’s no way we’d do the inverse of that where it’s somebody famous who can’t [act].”
Ultimately, Ruben Fleischer directed the Uncharted adaptation, and Holland was cast as Nathan, the character Pratt was offered. However, when Uncharted was released in 2022, it received mediocre reviews.
Chris Pratt Found Success In The Tomorrow War
Even though the critics didn’t enjoy Uncharted very much, many fans felt otherwise. According to IMDb, Uncharted brought in $401,748,820 at the worldwide box office. Unfortunately, even though $400 million is an impressive number, there aren’t any announced plans for a sequel.
Although Chris Pratt passed on the opportunity to star in the Uncharted movie, he made a different movie called The Tomorrow War, which he starred in and produced, and it turned out to be a success for him and Amazon Studios.
Similarly, in March 2020, Chris Pratt was filming Jurassic World Dominion, which brought in more than $1 billion at the box office when released in 2022. Considering the movie’s success, it is clear that Pratt’s decision to pass on Uncharted did not hurt his career in the slightest.
Both movies quickly became one of the most-watched Chris Pratt movies, with many viewers praising the actor’s performance and the film’s action sequences and special effects. The success of Jurassic World Dominion and The Tomorrow War has further cemented Pratt’s status as Hollywood’s leading action star and producer.
