The ad sees the Argo alum and his newly-formed supergroup storm into Jennifer Lopez’s studio donning pink and orange tracksuits. They bust into some sick moves, and show off their musical chops with an original pop track, albeit to Matt Damon’s reluctance, who appeared to be second-guessing everything that led up to this moment.

More comedic sequences ensue, but at the very end, we see Affleck and Damon walk side-by-side out of the studio as the latter says, “Remember how I said I would do anything for you? This is anything.” Turns out, this moment wasn’t even scripted!

The Elysium alum did, in fact, say it in real life. Discussing this behind-the-scene tidbit on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Hollywood star revealed how the line was intentionally left in.

Matt Damon’s Remark At The End Of Ben Affleck’s Viral Super Bowl Dunkin’ Ad Wasn’t Scripted

The ‘Dunkin’ Cinematic Universe’ only expands further.

Ben Affleck—whose love for Dunkin’ has become somewhat of a meme over the years after he was captured fumbling a delivery from the chain in 2020—brought forth the ‘Boston Massacre’ with The DunKings in the latest spot, which debuted at Super Bowl LVIII.

Retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady and longtime pal Matt Damon joined him in his quest to become a pop sensation. As the ad sparked quite the reception, it was only expected for the Oppenheimer star to be asked about it during his recent visit on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

And he revealed something that puts a meta-spin to the hilarious, self-aware ‘voice of reason’ role he adopted during the now-viral spot. According to the Bourne star, the comment he makes to Affleck at the very end of the commercial was something he actually said. It wasn’t scripted; it was just casually kept in.

Following was his response:

“I actually said that to [Affleck] when we were filming. And he just left it in!”

Show host Colbert joked, “In other words, ‘When I said I gave you a chit that said I would do anything for you,’ you just burned it on an ad.”

This led the 53-year-old actor to conclude, “However much time we have on this beautiful planet, he’s got no more chit with me.” Matt Damon’s vow to do anything for Ben Affleck appears to have already been put to use. And that, too, over a Dunkin’ commercial. Isn’t that just hashtag friendship goals?

As for whose brain the rib-tickling and bizarre ad emerged from, Damon confirmed, “That is clearly not my idea.”

Ben Affleck And Matt Damon Have A Long History Of Collaboration

Of course, the remarks made on the show were only lighthearted, as in the same interview, the Good Will Hunting star remarked about the Justice League alum being his ‘best friend’ for “many, many years.” This camaraderie has long translated on-screen, as well. Having partnered over the years on several Hollywood hits, the two pals are next slated to combine their professional powers in a film called ‘Animals’ for Netflix (via Variety).

Together, the two have worked on nine films in total. The iconic duo’s first outing together, albeit uncredited, was in 1989’s Field of Dreams. They starred as extras. Their next endeavor together was School Ties (1992). What followed, however, changed the trajectory of their lives and careers altogether.

Good Will Hunting (1997) became the initiative that won Ben Affleck and Matt Damon the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. This triumph proved legendary as it set the former as the youngest recipient of the honor, who was only 25 then. Co-writer Damon, on the other hand, was 27. After this, the two co-joined efforts to star in Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

After a momentary collaborative stasis and both embarking on their separate creative adventures, they would eventually get back together on screen in 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. And in 2021, their first writing collaboration since Good Will Hunting was observed with The Last Duel.

All of that brought audiences to 2023’s Air, of course. The project saw the two in starring roles, with Affleck also helming.

Over the years, the beloved duo has entertained several, and with their independent film company, Artists Equity, co-launched in 2022, we could expect to see more great things from the pair. In a nutshell, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s friendship is the gift that keeps giving. And one can’t wait to see what’s next in their decorated careers.
