This was something that Reynolds has always been vocal about.

Ryan Reynolds And Scarlett Johansson’s Divorce Got In The Way Of Deadpool Meeting Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson did not talk about her divorce from Ryan Reynolds until a few years later. She revealed that both of them being cast as superheroes created a lot of pressure and tension in their marriage.

At the time, Reynolds was cast in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Johansson joined Iron Man 2 in 2010. The competition was so strong that it ultimately led to their split. She explained to Cosmopolitan via E! News:

The logistics of being with another actor are challenging… If one person is more successful than the other, that also proves challenging… There has to be a real understanding of how you share your time, especially when two people’s careers are going at the same rate.”

The actors’ hectic schedules also increased the demand for work time and less for family. Johansson blamed this as the reason why their relationship failed to work. She claimed going home and just ended up staring at the wall because she was physically and mentally exhausted. There was too much challenge in finding personal time.

Then, the separation happened after the couple was rarely seen together and barely mentioned each other’s names in interviews. It is interesting to think that Deadpool and Black Widow have so much history and connection in Marvel Comics, yet the characters never met on screen.

Given the divorce news, fans would easily get the point. The actor made sure never to work with his ex-wife to avoid presumed awkwardness. Reynolds is now married to Blake Lively, and Johansson is with Colin Jost.

In another interview with Cosmopolitan via E! News, Scarlett Johansson admitted she did not regret severing ties with Ryan Reynolds. According to the actress, it was the best decision she made in her life. Still, she loved the experience of being married to the Deadpool star.

I’m a big believer that when something feels right, you should do it. I’m a big believer in instinct. Getting married was the right thing to do because it was natural. It grew out of a romance and love and a desire to have a future with somebody, and I was very fortunate that I married somebody who turned out to be the person I thought he would be.”

Johansson shared that she was not “fully aware of the peaks and the valleys” and she was not prepared “to hunker down and do the work.” Both actors, at the time, were at the height of their careers.
