Although it is regarded as one of the most interesting anime projects of all time, the Boruto storyline also holds some critically unanswered questions, just like its preceding storyline of Naruto. And to answer these very burning questions, fans have taken to make their own respective theories based on speculations.
One of these questions is about Mitsuki. Even though he is shown to be a clone created by Orochimaru, there are several things questioning his existence connected solely to Orochimaru. But one fan theory has finally shed light on who could be the other person who influenced his DNA: Kaguya Otsutsuki.
Boruto Theory: Mitsuki is not the Direct Clone of Orochimaru
All that fans know about Mitsuki in the Masashi Kishimoto Sensei-helmed universe is that he is a synthetically modified human clone whom Orochimaru created and introduced in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. He was reportedly raised in a test tube after being developed from at least one other older “Mitsuki” and was built to find his independence.
However, no further details about his invention except that the Snake Sannin had implanted a powerful juinjutsu on his heart that would make him destroy himself before revealing any details about how he was created have been revealed in the saga. Plus, though he is cited as Orochimaru’s clone, both of them have a lot of differences between them, even with their similarities.
For those who may not have noticed earlier, there is one major reason why the clone kid couldn’t be the direct clone of the Snake Sannin: His appearance. Even though he has inherited a lot of exceptionally strong snake-based jutsu techniques from his “parent,” his blatantly different appearance inevitably sets him apart from Orochimaru in an undeniable manner.
Thus, his mere appearance proves the fact that he is not the direct clone of Orochimaru. But at the same time, it brought about another major question: Did the Snake Sannin add someone else’s DNA to modify him into looking dissimilar to him? As it turns out, this just might be true, and the person whose DNA was used could be none other than Kaguya Otsutsuki.
Reasons Why Mitsuki Could Be Kaguya Otsutsuki’s ‘Child’
While it may seem unlikely, there is more than one reason why this theory is real, and the clone created by Orochimaru could have been the ‘child’ of Kaguya Otsutsuki, i.e., the Snake Sannin may have added Otsutsuki’s DNA to the clone to modify him into his final form. One of these reasons is unarguably the uncanny similarity in the physical appearance of the pair.
As many may have already noticed, the final boss at the end of Naruto Shippuden and the cloned human both have skin as white as snow, along with shiny white-blue hair. Adding to this is the mysterious resemblance that the clone has to Otsutsuki, which further connects him to her. However, although widely believable, this isn’t the only reason.
One other major key factor of Otsutsuki can be spotted in her speculated ‘child’: Her healing abilities. As was seen more than once in the saga, Orochimaru’s clone possesses mystifying healing abilities that more or less match those of the princess. Thus, it could very well be that Otsutsuki is the ‘parent’ of Mitsuki besides Orochimaru.
One Tiny Drawback to This Boruto Theory
Though most of the facts listed above make it clear that this theory could be as real as ever, there is one tiny drawback that questions the credibility of this answer: How did the Great White Snake get his hands on Otsutsuki’s DNA?
While we are yet to acquire the final answer to this question, what’s worth noting is the fact that Orochimaru has made it evident more than once in the saga that he can get hold of whatever he wants, irrespective of how he acquires it.
Thus, this question doesn’t quite challenge the core of the theory, and could very well be accepted as the answer to who else’s DNA Orochimaru used to create Mitsuki as long as one is willing to believe that the Snake Sannin can do anything he sets his heart to.
