Just like any other rumors about Marvel films, this should not be taken seriously until the studio makes an official announcement. The thing is, there have not been any formal reports about Ruffalo’s potential reprisal of Hulk.

Insider Reveals Crucial Information About World War Hulk

The reason why Hulk has always been paired with the Avengers and not given his own solo project since 2008 stems from a deal with Universal Pictures. The company owns the distribution rights to standalone Hulk movies.

The most recent rumor about World War Hulk comes from scooper KC Walsh, who revealed to a fan that the project is being developed as an Avengers movie.

Hulk is rumored to appear in the upcoming Avengers installments as well as in Captain America: Brave New World, though Mark Ruffalo immediately back-pedaled and claimed he was mistaken. Regardless, the actor previously expressed interest in appearing in a solo Hulk movie. He told GQ:

I’d love to do a standalone Hulk, I just don’t think that’s ever going to happen. It’s very expensive if you did a whole movie, which is why they use the Hulk so sparingly. I priced myself out!

The Oscar-nominated Poor Things star also hinted via Variety that there are so many stories that could be explored and still many questions that remain unanswered, yet the idea of adapting the World War Hulk storyline might not be an immediate plan for Marvel Studios.

There has been some conversations about what happened in the two years where Hulk abandoned Banner and the Avengers [on Sakaar], and the emergence of Smart Hulk, which hasn’t ever fully been answered. I think maybe we’ve given four sentences to that time period since then. It’s really an interesting, exciting part of the Hulk story and Banner story.”

If the rumor shared by the insider proves to be true, then it means Hulk won’t really get his own standalone movie, as Marvel boss Kevin Feige once told Ruffalo.

At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Ruffalo shared what Feige exactly told him about getting a solo Hulk film.

Kevin [asked me], ‘What would you like to do?’ He said, ‘What would you do if you had a standalone Hulk movie?’ And I said, ‘Well, I’d like to take him from this raging maniac to kind of this integrated character.’ And he said, ‘Okay, we’ll do that over the course of four movies. We’ll never give you a standalone Hulk, let’s just get that.’

As many of the reports concerning World War Hulk seem to lean on the less exciting side, fans can still look at the silver lining and that would be the possibility of Hulk returning to the big screen, even if it’s an Avengers movie.
