Drew Barrymore has gained quite a reputation outside of her acting career via her work as a talk-show host. A reason for her sudden spark in popularity is her unique interviewing style. Rather than creating an invasive experience for those who feature on her show, she instead provides a comfortable environment for them to express whatever they want to.
Creating an almost therapeutic experience, the actress appears to have taken inspiration from her own experiences. Barrymore recently claimed that she does not want to be the kind of interviewer she did not like to talk to herself, now that she is on the other side of the exchange.
Barrymore expresses compassion and genuine concern for those who appear on The Drew Barrymore Show, often even consoling them by taking their hand or hugging them. Doing something similar during a recent interview with Opera Winfrey, fans got extremely infuriated and accused her of being invasive. Oddly enough, Winfrey spoke up about this exact matter and her thoughts have proven to be quite opposite to fans’ claims.
Opera Winfrey Fans Got Upset At Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore recently did an interview with Oprah Winfrey on The Drew Barrymore Show. In order to promote the segment, a clip from the interview was released as a teaser. Fans saw Winfrey talking about an emotional topic which resulted in Barrymore taking her hand and stroking it in a bid to comfort her. While this was clearly a gesture made by the actress to put the talk show host at ease, fans did not seem to agree.
Many referred to her as creepy and claimed her actions were uncalled for. One fan even went as far as saying that Winfrey’s body language clearly communicated the fact that she was uncomfortable. While this was merely speculation, the talk show host herself ended up talking about how she felt about the incident.
Oprah Winfrey Didn’t Mind Barrymore’s Antics During Interview
Opera Winfrey was asked about this exact interview by TMZ recently, and the television host had a lot to say. She revealed that not only was the gesture welcomed by her, but it also brought about a change in her life. She found the way that the actress held her hand very comforting and helpful.
“Not a bit, not a bit. I was actuall comforted by the strocking of the arm. I went home and told Stedman, ‘You gotta strock my arm. Stedman I need to be strocked on the arm.’ It was so comforting. No I was not uncomfortable at all. I’ve never seen her do that but I thought, it was wdurring.'”
So much so that she went home, and asked her husband, Stedman Graham to learn how to hold her a similar way. Winfrey stated that she had never seen anyone stroke someone’s hand like Barrymore did and that the experience helped her feel at peace.
