No Way Home Theory: Maguire’s Spider-Man Will Die, Giving Holland’s Peter His “Uncle Ben Moment”

By now, you’ve got to believe that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It will make our dreams come true, just like Avengers: Endgame did. That finale event gave us the biggest team-up moment with Cap calling out, “Avengers Assemble.” And then we all had to witness one of the most tragic moments with Tony’s big sacrifice. Now, our theory is that No Way Home will mark the finale event for Spider-Man’s trilogy. It will also give us an epic team up in the finale, and then it will end with a Tony Stark-like scene as Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man will die.

Dark Spider-Man Endgame

Spider-Man Will Die

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be a huge event because it gives us a blast from the past. But, Tom Holland recently called the movie “dark” and “brutal”, saying that it is “not fun” to watch. His exact statement was, “What people will be really surprised about is that it’s not fun, this film. It’s dark and it’s sad, and it’s going to be really affecting.” So yea, a dark and brutal movie would certainly have character deaths. We all know that Marvel is really good at giving us emotional moments of self-sacrifice. And I reckon that that’s what we’ll get at the end of the upcoming final battle.

Earlier this year, director Jon Watts told Empire magazine that this film is going to be extremely ambitious. He even called the film a “Spider-Man: Endgame.” If it is an Endgame, then someone has to bite the dust! This someone obviously cannot be Holland’s Peter Parker. He is still pretty young and has at least one more trilogy in him along with several other crossover appearances. So, to make the movie special like Endgame, Logan, or No Time To Die, one of the other two Spideys have to be given a grand exit.

Which Spider-Man Will Die?

One could think that since Garfield’s Spider-Man is the least popular among the 3, he is also the most expendable one. So, maybe he could be killed off to give us a darker vibe. Meanwhile, Maguire could be preserved for another appearance, i.e. in his canceled Spider-Man 4. But thinking that a Spider-Man 4 could happen in the future would be like hoping for the Restoration of the SnyderVerse. It is just too good to be true. So, we have to believe that No Way Home is Tobey’s final outing as Spider-Man. That’s why, it won’t be Garfield, but Maguire whose Spider-Man will perish. That’s what will have the biggest impact on the story.

Initial reports did suggest that Tobey Maguire took a lot of time to sign on for the film. That could be because he and Marvel were working out the right way to handle his story. Maybe, he agreed only when Marvel promised him a special outing and a grand exit. If this is his last outing then he should also get his own Tony-Logan-Bond moment. Endgame is when the biggest hero makes the biggest sacrifice. And Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is the one who is most anticipated by fans. His death will, hence, be the most impactful one.

Why Maguire…

It is really high time that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man gets proper closure to his story. I’m not saying that both these Multiverse Spider-Men would just come in for 5 minutes and then Maguire’s Pete will die. It has been reported that both these Spider-Men are also supposed to have close to 30 minutes of screen time in the movie. So, that will allow all three Web Slingers to connect with each other and form a great bond.

Then, the ultimate sacrifice of Maguire’s Spidey will be very inspiring for Holland and Garfield’s heroes. It will be more inspiring for Holland’s Pete because after looking at the bravery of Maguire’s Spider-Man, MCU Pete will finally become a complete hero. Maguire’s Wall-Crawler was the lone hero in his Universe. Meanwhile, MCU’s Peter has always been in someone’s shadow (first Tony, now Strange). So, witnessing the big sacrificial moment, he will learn to become his own hero. In fact, I believe that this moment will be used to deliver one of the most iconic Spider-Man moments.

With a Great Maguire Comes a Great Ben

Both The Amazing Spider-Man and MCU recreated the big Uncle Ben moment of “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility” in different ways. But now, we will get to hear this line through Maguire’s Spider-Man. It won’t just be in the film for the sake of it. It will feel earned as this is the knowledge that Maguire’s Peter will bestow upon Holland’s Peter. He heard it from his Uncle Ben. And now, he’d pass it on to another Peter in his final moments. This scene will be magical, and extremely emotional!

And yes, it has been a long-running theory that Tobey Maguire could actually be the Uncle Ben of MCU. While that may not be the case, Maguire delivering the big Uncle Ben line would actually make that theory true in its own way. Because in hindsight, he’d do exactly what Uncle Ben was supposed to do for Peter. And with Maguire’s Peter becoming the de facto Uncle B for Holland’s Peter, we’d finally see an Uncle Ben die in the MCU!
