Azealia Banks Critized Beyoncé’s Remake of Dolly Parton’s Jolene
Beyoncé surprised her fans by dropping her new album, Cowboy Carter, which is the second part of her Renaissance trilogy. Her country genre album features Dolly Parton’s hit 1973 song, Jolene but the former chose to add her flavor into it.
However, a reimagined version of Jolene is not everyone’s favorite as American rapper, Azealia Banks, who’s known for her outspoken views, has once again taken to Instagram to slam the songstress’ new song.
As part of her latest criticism of Queen Bey‘s music, she took a shot at her husband, Jay Z, slamming the idea of him being “attractive.”
She wrote on Instagram, that The Pop Tingz shared on their X account, stating,
“Who is this imaginary adversary that she thinks still wants to be involved with Jay-Z in 2024? She needs to change the subject. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, finds him attractive…”
As she took a hot shot at her partner, online commentators are also expressing their opinions on the Diva singer’s version of Jolene. Check out the tweets here.

Despite the singer’s criticism, Beyoncé’s partner, Jay-Z himself is an influential figure in the music industry. They have been married for over a decade, collaborating several times, and even accomplishing accolades for the same. Whereas, the iconic singer’s furious take on Parton’s classic continues to make headlines.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Album Features Dolly Parton’s Jolene Remake
Dolly Parton’s most covered song, Jolene once again garnered fans’ attention after Queen Bey presented her vocals on the popular song on her new album. However, her lyrics are quite different from the original song, which seemingly addresses her husband’s infidelity scandal.
Instead of “begging” the character, Jolene not to steal her man like what Parton did in the original song, the 42-year-old singer issues a “warning” for Jolene to stay away from her spouse.
According to the Lemonade singer’s rendition of the 1970s song, ‘Jolene’ is trying to “come between a family and a happy man,” seemingly referencing her husband cheating on her.
She sings in the chorus,
“Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / I’m warnin’ you, don’t come for my man / Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / Don’t take the chance because you think you can.”
Yoncé not only warns her adversary by showcasing her empowering perception, but she also reaffirms her bond with her spouse in the same song with lines like “I know my man better than he knows himself” and “Jolene, I know I’m a queen.”
Even the original singer has complimented the former for her rendition on her Instagram. Whereas, the album itself broke several records, including within 24 hours of its release, including the biggest debut ever on Amazon Music globally.
