2023 was a very successful year for One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen, as both franchises accumulated much success and broke several records. The series’ fanbase also grew a lot in the past year, but one anime managed to surpass them in terms of watching.
Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece were left behind by none other than Demon Slayer, which was the most-watched anime series in 2023 with an average of 15.4 million viewers and a 22.8 million peak, which was the highest in the world in 2023 and depicts the large and loyal fanbase of the series.
Demon Slayer was the most-watched anime of 2023, surpassing Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece
Jujutsu Kaisen had quite a fantastic year, with the series grabbing a spot in the top 3 most-in-demand shows worldwide, along with Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus One Piece.
Despite these two franchises dominating other anime, the Demon Slayer anime managed to go ahead of these two in terms of watching.
The legendary series written by Koyoharu Gotouge proves its existence by still breaking records several years after the manga ended.
The Demon Slayer anime, which Ufotable animates, dominated other animes in terms of live viewership in Japan by a significant margin, with each episode averaging an astonishing 15.4 million viewers.
Not only this, but the anime managed to peak at 22.8 million, which is a massive amount, and it is due to the first two seasons’ reputation as one of the best anime programs in the world.
Season 3 of the series covered the Swordsmith Village arc, which was the foundation of the upcoming nerve-wracking battles between the Hashiras and the demons, which could break the internet if done correctly.
Although Koyoharu Gotouge’s story might have surpassed the likes of other animes in terms of watching, this number is based on Japan and not global viewership.
What’s next for Demon Slayer?
With the conclusion of season 3, which animated the long-awaited Swordsmith Village arc, the franchise is all set to return in 2024 with a new season.
The anime has been renewed for a fourth season already, with a teaser revealed to confirm it soon after the conclusion of season 3.
Fans are excited to see their favorite Demon Slayer characters back on their screens. The fourth season will be animating the Hashira training arc.
This arc would feature the rigorous training undergone by Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu before they took on the biggest battle of their era, which was against Muzan Kibutsuji.
It has yet to be revealed whether the upcoming season will only animate the Hashira training arc or more since it is concise and will be over in 4-5 episodes.
The series is available to watch on Crunchyroll
