Edward Newgate Deserves More Respect To His Name
Edward Newgate, popularly known as Whitebeard, was the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and was named the Strongest Man on the planet. He is one of the strongest characters in One Piece, if not the strongest. He consumed the Gura Gura no Mi and developed the ability to create quakes. The fan theory suggests that he never showcased his ultimate strength since it could have destroyed the entire planet.

In his prime, he could have easily defeated Gol D. Roger. People might disagree with it since Gol D. Roger was also pretty strong and blocked Whitebeard’s attack. But it was not the true extent of his abilities. His Gura Gura no Mi can cause quakes, which lead to landslides and tsunamis. In the manga, the Devil Fruit bubble hardly covered his entire arm, yet it was strong enough to change the geography of the Marineford.
Suffering from old age and cancer, Newgate’s Devil Fruit powers were strong enough to send shockwaves to the Sabaody Archipelago. So, it goes without saying that in his prime it could have changed Sabaody’s geography too. Moreover, logia-type Devil Fruit users can create larger attacks. Portgas D. Ace’s Entei against Blackbeard was the size of a small hut, and Big Mom increased Prometheus’ size to a small hill.
So, if Whitebeard ever used the Gura Gura no Mi bubble of that size, it could destroy the entire planet. But he never went to that extent since he loved his crewmates dearly. He did not want to hurt them and refrained from using it. Apart from that, Roger and he shared a friendly rival nature, so he never went full power against him. The Gura Gura no Mi would cause incredible damage if Whitebeard coats it with his Conqueror’s Haki.
Whitebeard Never Utilised His True Strength in One Piece
Edward Newgate is one of the few characters who never got to use the full extent of his true strength. Due to the sheer destructive force of his Devil Fruit, he always had to be careful. He never let his feelings get the better of him since increasing the bubble range could put his crew and innocent people’s lives at risk. It would deprive him of the only thing he ever wished for, a family.
Fans got a glimpse of the Strongest Man in One Piece during the Paramount war, when he destroyed a giant captain and humbled Akainu while being heavily injured. Even though the Gura Gura no Mi is the strongest Devil Fruit, Eiichiro Oda never explored it. So, it will always never a fan theory until something interesting happens.
Currently, the powers of the Gura Gura no Mi lie with Blackbeard, who is often seen to use its ability. Fans are still hopeful to see Gura Gura no Mi’s destructive force through Blackbeard, even though Whitebeard could have given a better experience to them.
