Palworld, widely referred to as ‘Pokémon with Guns,’ took the world by storm when it entered Early Access on January 19. With 8 million copies sold in one week, Pocketpair’s surprise hit has been dominating the Top Seller charts on Steam since then.
It has just been dethroned by Helldivers 2 ahead of its launch on PlayStation 5 and PC. With pre-orders alone, Sony’s game has taken the top spot and become the most-selling game on Valve’s platform.
Palworld Is No Longer the #1 Top Seller on Steam
Arrowhead Game Studios’ co-op shooter Helldivers 2 has achieved a notable milestone ahead of its launch. The title is being released today, February 8, yet it has already soared to the top of the best-selling games on Steam in the United States and globally.
The multiplayer title has raked in enough revenue from pre-orders alone to end widely popular Pokémon-like title’s dominance on the platform and push it down to second place when disregarding free-to-play games.
Soaring to the top of the pile is already an impressive achievement, and accomplishing this before its release is even more remarkable. In the United States, the co-op shooter also left big hitters, including Call of Duty and Counter-Strike 2, in the dust.
As the title launches today, it’s hard to say how this will translate into player numbers. At the time of writing, Pocketpair’s game clocks in at the second most concurrent players behind PUBG, with an all-time peak of over 2.1 million.
Helldivers 2 Launches on PS5 and PC Simultaneously
The pre-orders prove that gamers are eager to play the sequel to the 2015 original, which sees a squad of players fight chaotic battles against enormous aliens with an arsenal of weapons.
The first game was very popular, and it looks like the sequel will follow in its footsteps. Its pre-launch success could also have to do with the fact that the co-op shooter is the first PlayStation Studio title to launch simultaneously on the console and PC.
The PlayStation maker has been pushing into the PC gaming space by porting big hits including Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, God of War, and The Last of Us Part I. However, these initially launched on PlayStation exclusively and were only ported years later.
With Arrowhead Game Studios’ new shooter, PC and console gamers can jump into the hectic battles, day and night, and face extraterrestrials together, thanks to the game’s cross-platform support.
The game is out today, and it will be interesting to see how the sales and player numbers develop over the next few days.
