For PlayStation Plus subscribers, the most exciting time of the month is when the company announces the next lineup of free games for the month. It’s the highlight of the membership.
However, the April 2024 announcement has left many members feeling disappointed, with some even dubbing it “the worst month” they’ve seen. Let’s take a closer look at the games included and the mixed reactions they’ve garnered from fans.
PlayStation Plus April 2024 Games
Earlier today, the official announcement for next month’s batch of PS Plus games dropped. These games will be available to download from April 2nd onward.
The first title is Immortals of Aveum, an action-adventure game developed by Nexus Studios. Set in a fantastical world teeming with magic and mythical creatures, players assume the role of a hero on a quest to save the realm from an ancient evil.
Then, we’ve got Minecraft Legends, which brings the beloved world-building gameplay of Minecraft into the realm of real-time action strategy.
Developed by Mojang Studios, this spin-off title combines the sandbox creativity of Minecraft with an engaging storyline set in the iconic blocky universe.
According to the official summary:
Minecraft Legends is a brand new game that tells the story of the Overworld uniting against an invasion by the ravenous piglins. According to the legend, only you can bring together the mobs of the Overworld and help them defend their home.
Skul: The Hero Slayer is one of the more exciting titles, making it the PS Plus selection. Developed by SouthPAW Games, Skul is a 2D action-platformer that puts players in the role of Skul, a small skeleton fighting against an army of heroes to save his demon king.
With its fast-paced gameplay, tight controls, and charming pixel art style, the game offers a refreshing take on the traditional platformer genre and integrates roguelike elements. Its intriguing gameplay just makes you want to come back for more.
PlayStation Plus Subscribers Aren’t Happy with the Selection
The announcement of the April 2024 PlayStation Plus additions has prompted a range of reactions from subscribers. Especially after the positive reaction toward February’s lineup, April’s is looking really unpopular.
While some fans have expressed excitement for the opportunity to try out new games, others have voiced disappointment over the perceived lack of quality and variety.
What the hell are those? Are they actually games?

And there’s really no shortage of negative comments about the announcement.

Of course, it wasn’t all negativity. Some people were happy about the games that were announced.
Damn! That's a great month for PS Plus members!

There were obligatory comments joking about how some of the games hit PS Plus right after they purchased them.
This is the third or fourth time I've picked up a game from EA just for it to become free on PS+ a few weeks later

Overall, the reaction seems mixed and slightly leaning toward the disappointed and angry side.
It’s nothing unusual, however. Mixed reactions are a trend with every announcement; there’s always a portion of people who dislike the new additions and others who are happy to give some new games a try.
