The announcement of the movies comes six years after the initial announcement of the movie at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 for MCU. Ahead of the release of the movie, it has been revealed that Reed Richards is the reason behind Venom’s hatred towards Spider-Man.

Reed Richards linked to Venom’s hatred towards Spider-Man

The symbiote appeared for the first time in the Marvel Universe with The Amazing Spider-Man #252, The Spectacular Spider-Man #90, and Marvel Team-Up #41. Spider-Man brings one of them to Earth after the Secret Wars. He appeared in a full appearance as Venom in The Amazing Spider-Man #300.

Comics Unlocked shared a video on YouTube explaining;

“After the Venom symbiote bonds with Peter Parker, it gains all of Peter’s memories including his biggest regrets and failures. Motivated to help his new host the symbiote decides to take over the role of Spider-Man while Peter sleeps. Unfortunately, Venom’s idea of justice is not what Peter would accept but still tries his best to make his host proud.”

The video further explains that one night after almost getting Peter Parker killed, the symbiote realizes that he is hurting his host by not letting him rest. To his surprise, Peter Parker asks Reed Richards to examine his new suit and tells him to remove the symbiote after finding out that he’s alive. Richards separates the two of them using Sonic Blaster that injures Venom, and his hatred towards Spider-Man just fuels.

In a scene in Spider-Man 3, he goes to a church bell tower and uses the intense sound of the bells to tear the symbiote off his body. Despite being rejected, the symbiote feels connected to Spider-Man and drags him to safety before disappearing.

Distractify further explains that after being separated from Peter Parker, hopeless Venom starts to unite with other hosts before he ends up with Eddie Brock.

Eddie Brock and Venom bonded over their mutual hatred towards Spider-Man

Eddie Brock, who was working as a journalist at The Daily Globe, had received a letter from a man named Emil Gregg confessing to be the sin killer. The journalist started to post articles about him in the newspaper based on the conversations he’d had with him.

Emil was arrested and put behind bars after Brock revealed his identity to the police but to their surprise, the killings didn’t stop after which Spider-Man swooped in to save the day. He revealed the real identity of Sin-Eater: Stanley Carter, which made Brock lose everything he had worked for. The act of revealing Emil Gregg’s identity to the police was significant for Brock as he believed that this would finally get him the affection of his father for which he had been struggling his entire life.

Spider-Man’s act of coming and saving the day results in Brock and his father’s relationship turning sour. This fueled Eddie Brock’s hatred towards Spider-Man as he eventually joins Venom at the same church where Spider-Man rejects Venom’s symbiote.

The Spectacular Spider-Man Vol. 2 #5 details (via ScreenRant) that much of Eddie’s hatred is motivated by fear, pointing out that he soon realizes that the symbiote functions as his life support system. Thisis why he needs to keep the symbiote focused on hating Spider-Man. Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock in the live-action version of Venom.

Fantastic Four is scheduled for a July 2025 release.
