While fans assumed we might not witness an event of the caliber of Spider-Man: No Way Home once again in our lifetime, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 is now shaping out to be on a similar level. After the trailer debuted on Super Bowl, it reasonably sent the entire fandom into a frenzy, with Parent Company Disney reporting that it became the most viewed trailer within the first 24 hours.
However, technically, this might not be the case, as Disney also included the Super Bowl numbers in their reports, which would mean that NWH remains the most streamed trailer online.
Spider-Man: No Way Remains the Most Streamed Trailer Online Within the First 24 Hours
Among the 365 million views reported by Disney for Deadpool & Wolverine trailer within the first 24 hours, a big chunk of them was thanks to the Super Bowl (via THR). Considering 2024’s Super Bowl touched an all-time high with 123 million viewers tuning in, the stat for Deadpool & Wolverine also included these figures, which ballooned the eventual numbers to 365 million. That would mean that around 242 million people watched it online, which falls notably short of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which racked up a whopping 355 million views within its first 24 hours.
And while it’s unfair to compare any movie with Tom Holland’s No Way Home, whose hype may never be recreated again, Deadpool 3 could be the next big thing that the MCU desperately needs. However, Deadpool & Wolverine did cement themselves as the most streamed trailer online for a rated-R feature, which will touch new grounds that remain untouched in the MCU.
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 Could Finally End MCU’s Struggle to Hit a Billion Since NWH
While it’s pretty likely the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led film might not do figures like No Way Home at the box office following its rating, it’s possible that it’ll set a new benchmark for rated-R CBMS. Like No Way Home, Deadpool & Wolverine will also see returning Marvel figures from other universes, with Hugh Jackman being one of the leads alongside Reynolds.
And considering post-No Way Home, things have been rough for MCU, with none of their releases going past the billion-dollar threshold, Deadpool 3 might finally change things up. With Wade Wilson set to become the Marvel Jesus, Disney will hope the upcoming flick resurrects the MCU back to its former glory, which it might end up doing.
Although like No Way Home, Deadpool 3 will also be dealing with the multiverse, it’s evident the scale of the multiverse is going to be far larger in this threequel. The Ryan Reynolds-led film might also directly play a part in setting up the Secret Wars, as a tattered copy of Secret Wars #5 can be seen at the end of the trailer.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theatres on 26 July 2024.
