Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is regarded as one of the top-tier MCU projects released after Avengers: Endgame. Simu Liu and the entire cast delivered an excellent performance, and the action sequences were heavily praised. The 2021 film hinted that the character will be a key character in the Multiverse Saga moving forward. According to recent reports, the actor can reprise his role in 4 major upcoming MCU flicks.
The MCU did not have an enjoyable time after the conclusion of The Infinity Saga. The franchise giant saw everything from all-time low box office figures to bad audiences and critical reception. Shang-Chi was one of the few good things in this phase, and it looks like the MCU may utilize his popularity and make him a crucial part of the Multiverse Saga.
Shang-Chi has a promising future in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga
Besides its popularity among MCU fans, the Simu Liu film ended on a mysterious note that raised several questions among the audiences. It was revealed in the post-credits scene that the rings were sending a signal to an unknown recipient. Several fans theorized that the rings were linked to the multiverse. They concluded it was either sending a signal to Kang or any other multiversal being. It also hinted that Shang-Chi and his lore may be crucial to the Multiverse Saga.
According to the latest reports by Marvel Updates, Wenwu’s son is slated to appear in 4 major films- Armor Wars, Shang-Chi 2, Avengers 5, and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, it should also be mentioned that we are yet to receive official updates about this project. While Shang-Chi 2 and the Avengers films are expected to have deeper connections to The Multiverse Saga, it will be interesting to see if and how the Simu Liu superhero is seen in Armor Wars.

The Ten Rings organization is featured in Iron Man and Iron Man 3. At the end of the Shang-Chi film, we saw the titular character’s sister, Xialing, taking over the Ten Rings organization following the demise of Wenwu. The organization might return in the upcoming Don Cheadle-led Armor Wars. Recently, Bob Iger revealed that they have scrapped several potentially bad MCU projects in secrecy, and several fans were skeptical that Armor Wars might also have been one of them.
While time will show Armor Wars‘ future, Shang-Chi 2 is reported to dwell more on the lore of the rings. The film is also reported to explore the hidden world of Ta-Lo. As hinted by the rings in the first film’s post-credits scene, Ta-Lo might have multiversal connections. However, with Kang’s debatable MCU future, how the projects lead to Avengers 5 and Secret Wars will be interesting to look forward.
What did Simu Liu say about Shang-Chi 2?
Recently, the officials at the High Table of the MCU announced that the superhero franchise will only focus on guaranteed hits instead of experiments. The success of the 2021 Simu Liu film suggested that the film would surely get a sequel. However, the release date of the project is still under wraps.
In the latest interview with ComicBook, when Simu Liu was asked about his appearance in Avengers 5, the actor did not reveal anything. He revealed that the actors are not informed so much about the upcoming projects. But he praised the Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton and assured the fans that the sequel to his 2021 film will surely happen.
“But, you know Destin is such a special filmmaker and we’re very happy to have him on the sequel. So, he’ll be working on that and we’re really excited to see what he comes up with. I think he’s going to do a brilliant job.”
Over time, several fans and Marvel celebrities have praised Destin Daniel Cretton’s work in the MCU. Even though unfortunately he took a backseat from directing Avengers 5. It will be interesting to see how his work plays out in the Simu Liu sequel and what repercussions the project has on the Multiversal level.
