Sony Is Confident Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Will Do Terrific at the Box Office
On a recent Sony Group Corporation conference call as reported by Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra shed light on the challenges facing the film industry, which includes the rise of streaming platforms, the post-pandemic era, and the impact of last year’s historic strikes by writers and actors.
These disruptions have resulted in a decrease in the number of films making it to theaters. However, amidst this uncertainty, there is confidence that the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will thrive, despite the lack of details currently available about the film. He explained,
What really is happening is that people got out of the habit of going into theaters. As the marketplace begins to recover in terms of having big films, you’ll see people start to go to theaters again. The second half of this year, you’re going to see quite a resurgence. One film will improve the odds of the next film. Starting in July you’ll see every week a big film coming out.
He further explained,
Once we get back into the normal cadence of producing films, I think you’re going to see the comeback. We may not get back to pre-pandemic level. It is more difficult to produce a film that generates cultural action within the community but we’re pretty optimistic about the next couple of years
According to the executive, the Spider-Verse movie “will do just terrific.” Well, that’s no surprise, considering how much cash the franchise brings in for the company. So, it’s expected to rake in the same hefty profits as before.
How Profitable Is the Miles Morales Franchise?
When one talks about box office victories, the Spider-Verse swings high, with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse spinning $384.3 million and its sequel, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, snaring $690 million worldwide.
