Stellar Blade and its main character, EVE, have received a steady stream of praise from the game’s newfound fans since its release a week ago. Despite the controversy surrounding censorship and post-launch content edits, the game continues to appeal to people with all it offers.
Part of Stellar Blade’s appeal comes from the lines of outfits that you can grab for EVE. Many of the game’s fans are already looking forward to the crossover outfits that ShiftUp is going to bring to the game. However, it seems that Stellar Blade already includes one such highly anticipated outfit, referencing the cult-classic anime Kill La Kill.
Stellar Blade’s One Outfit May Be a Reference to Kill La Kill
Since the game’s highly successful launch, many people have taken to social media to speculate on the game’s future crossovers. While much of the speculation is centered on the need for a NieR collaboration, some fans also wish for a few anime collaborations, the most popular being Kill La Kill.
As it turns out, Stellar Blade seems to already reference the massively popular anime with one of its outfits, the Black Wave, as the Reddit user ASLAYER0FMEN discovered:
The outfit bears a striking resemblance to Senketsu, the outfit and main ally of Ryūko, the main protagonist of the show. With this discovery, the craving for a full-on collaboration with Kill La Kill has only turned tenfold. While that collaboration may be some ways off, the Black Wave outfit is easily obtainable and can be found Southeast of the Great Desert in the game.
Stellar Blade May Already Have a Few Collaborations in the Works
Though it may seem that ShiftUp is currently busy thanking the players for their support and reposting fanart of EVE on their social media accounts, a few collaborations seem to already be underway. To no one’s surprise, Stellar Blade’s streak of collaboration will begin with Goddess of Victory: Nikke, another popular title on smartphones by ShiftUp.
In a recent interview with the YouTube channel GamerBraves, CEO Kim Hyung-tae shared that “a very high-quality crossover collaboration” between ShiftUp’s two games will be coming soon, to much fan enthrallment and appreciation.
Apart from their portfolio of work, a few other collaborations almost seem like a match made in heaven. Having completed the storyline of NieR Re[in]carnation just last month, and given ShiftUp’s clearly inspired choices with Stellar Blade, the two series are ripe for a crossover.
Some of the other works of media anticipated for future crossovers include Ghost in the Shell, Alita: Battle Angel, and the aforementioned Kill La Kill.
Now, whether or not ShiftUp will be able to tiptoe its way through the abyss of censorship remains to be seen. While some fans remain skeptical and continue to support the #FreeStellarBlade campaign, ShiftUp has maintained its silence on the matter, perhaps leaving this matter for the future.
With all the buzz surrounding Stellar Blade, more such references and wink-winks are sure to be dug up. Do you feel that the outfit truly references Kill La Kill? Are you excited to try it out in-game? Let us know in the comments!
