Stellar Blade’s arrival has marked an important time in the PlayStation timeline. After a long time, fans have received a brand new IP that’s not only aesthetically-pleasing, but has gameplay that’s a mix of challenging and classy hack-and-slash fun.
According to a trailer that dropped not too long ago, we can see parts of the combat gameplay that’s surprisingly anime-esque and lets players tear through enemies like the stellar fighters they are supposed to be.
Fans Are Appreciating How Stellar Blade’s Combat Works
User Orb_0611 on Reddit shared a trailer put out by PlayStation on YouTube. It showcases a special part of the game’s combat system called, ‘Burst Skills‘.
These are combat mechanics players can incorporate in the gameplay to lay down a series of deadly attacks when going against harsh enemies.
Fans have been positively responding to this trailer, claiming how exctided they’ve been for the game to drop. Many consider the movements to be a mix of extremely smooth dance moves combined with accurate sword skills. One fan says:
EVE’s movements look like those of a dancer. I love it! 🤩
Few users have even pointed out how this can be used better in the game’s overall combat system, and how players can improve their approach to attacking overall. User BushidoBrownTheGamer says:
y’all better get good at perfect dodging. FYI: Repulse and Blink each give you 3 full burst squares, perfect dodge gives 1 full burst square.
Even after several trailers and an entire demo, it seems like we’ve barely scratched the surface of how Stellar Blade’s combat mechanics can be versatile for everyone who’s playing the game.
Stellar Blade’s Combat Is Nothing Short of Surprising and Engaging
If you’ve just watched a couple of clips and have been wondering how Stellar Blade’s combat truly works, well, think of this as a mix between Soulslike games that require parrying, dodging and multiple combos.
For instance, just pressing Square-Triangle-Square-Triangle lets Eve do a quick series of slashes that can lead to further chains of attacks. Similarly, there are over 8 combos you can try out, but all of this only makes sense when you’re also aware of incoming damage.
Hence, parrying and dodging become useful skills in the long-run. Even though this may seem challenging at first, the healthy skill-ceiling gives players ample of opportunity to hone their skills and have something to look forward to.
Stellar Blade’s promising characters and narrative add to this, building the potential for one of the best PS5 exclusives to come out in a while.
