Rober Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, has recently stated that Omni-Man, one of the leads of the show can easily defeat the all-mighty Superman. Although both of them are from different universes and franchises, this sudden claim will surely throw the entire DC Universe into a frenzy. But even though it might seem impossible to beat Superman, there may be some weight behind those words.
Omni-Man is not just a warrior. He is the scion of a warrior race—Viltrumites. Imagine Kryptonians but with a conqueror’s heart and bred for domination over all the galaxy. Their world, intoxicated with violence, prioritizes strength and ruthlessness. Omni-Man, though powerful, is just one cog in a vast, expansionist machine, sent to Earth as part of a larger Viltrumite plan.
Kryptonite vs. Viltrumite: Can Omni-Man Crush Superman?
Robert Kirkman, the mastermind behind Invincible, recently ignited a comic book firestorm by declaring Omni-Man, his ruthless Viltrumite warrior, would obliterate Superman. While this claim might ruffle DC fan feathers, it’s worth examining the potential truth lurking within this wild opinion. Firstly, let’s acknowledge the obvious: both Superman and Omni-Man are powerhouses.
Fueled by yellow suns, they possess near-unmatched strength, speed, and durability. However, their parallels end there. Superman, the embodiment of hope and justice, often holds back, bound by his moral compass. On the other hand, Omni-Man operates with brutal efficiency, driven by a ruthless imperialistic agenda. This difference in mentality greatly impacts their fighting styles and potential victories.
Kirkman’s claim hinges on the notion that Omni-Man’s strength surpasses Superman’s. While comic book history can be inconsistent, evidence suggests otherwise. Superman’s feats, like moving planets and surviving a supernova, hint at a power level exceeding Omni-Man’s stated capabilities. However, during a fight raw strength isn’t the only winning factor.

In a strategic battle, versatile power and thinking could be the game-changer, potentially tipping the scales in Omni-Man’s favor. While Omni-Man might strike first and fight dirty, Superman’s tenacious resolve and willingness to sacrifice himself for the greater good could fuel his resolve and lead to victory. On the other hand, it might also be why Superman may lose to Omni-Man.
Invincible: Deconstructing the Superhero Dream
Invincible, the animated series, is no average superhero show. It tears spandex and tights apart to bare their messy reality, and at its very core, Invincible looks into the issues of heroism, family, and the weight of legacy from the eyes of Mark Grayson, a teenage boy thrown into the world of super-strength. Grayson’s journey starts innocently enough.
Son of Earth’s greatest hero, Omni-Man, and a bright, compassionate, seemingly all-too-human existence—his dream is to continue in his father’s footsteps and one day take on the cape. But as Grayson develops his abilities, there dawns a dark truth. Omni-Man’s heroism masks a sinister agenda, forcing Grayson to confront a horrifying reality: his father is not who he seems.
However, the perfect animation added to it makes a good complement to the emotional depth of this show, easily switching between heartwarming moments and brutal violence befitting invincible disquisition into the superhero life. Invincible is not afraid to dirty its hands with mature thematic concerns—it is gory; replete with betrayal, as well as the cost of heroism.
Unlike most classic superhero stories, concerned with drawing clear lines between the good guys and the bad, Invincible built a complicated world much like our own—where heroes made mistakes, villains had motives, and the line between them often seemed blurry. This moral ambiguity adds depth and intrigue, forcing viewers to question their perceptions of heroism and villainy. Invincible isn’t just a superhero show; it’s a coming-of-age story wrapped in a thrilling action-adventure.
