No one hops onto trends better than the make-up mogul Kim Kardashian. Recently on January 17, the influencer posted a TikTok doing her version of the “Of Course” trend, while showing off her office space. From showcasing her minimal but extravagant taste, the video eventually came to the point where Kardashian mentioned the tanning bed she installed in the space.
That’s when Kim Kardashian started receiving backlash and sarcastic comments on her TikTok video. With doctors and netizens calling her out for using and promoting tanning beds that are known to cause skin cancer, Kardashian got slammed as her TikTok video resurfaced her past comments about tanning.
Kim Kardashian Has Been a Big Fan of Tanning Beds
The globally renowned social media influencer and SKIMS founder, Kim Kardashian, has been a massive fan of tanned skin from the very beginning. The model has always been known for promoting tanning beds and tanned skin. Back in 2014, as per ET video, Kardashian was seen promoting tanning by expressing her love for tanned skin.
“I’m big on tanning. I think tanning makes you feel better about yourself, you look healthy when you’re tanned.”
However, Kim Kardashian‘s undying love for tanning was recently slammed by fans and dermatologists after the influencer posted a video on TikTok. Hopping onto the ongoing “Of Course” trend, Kardashian posted a video showing off her SKKN BY KIM headquarters. From showing off her product shrine to her over-the-top luxury features, the influencer showed off her extravagant office.
Eventually, the record-scratch moment appeared in the video when Kim Kardashian mentioned the tanning bed she installed in her office space. This particular segment in the video is what landed the influencer in the dirt as she got brutally slammed by fans for using and promoting tanning beds that are known for causing skin cancer.
Kim Kardashian’s Recent TikTok Video Received Backlash
Following Kim Kardashian’s recent TikTok video, the influencer got slammed by fans over her tanning beds. For those who aren’t aware, back in 2007, a study confirmed the association between indoor tanning and melanoma. According to the International Journal of Cancer publication, it was noted that even one-time use of a tanning bed increases the risk of cancer.
Further, it was also confirmed that regular use of tanning beds, before the age of 35, can cause a 75% increased risk of developing melanoma. Thus, Kim Kardashian was criticized by Denver-based dermatologist Dr. Scott Walter, and London-based dermatologist Dr. Aamna Adel, for endorsing a practice that could cause fatal harm to millions of her fans.
“Kim, no disrespect, but why do you have a tanning bed when your sister has had a history of melanoma herself? If you have a family history of it, your risk for melanoma goes up by 74 percent. And that’s on top of the risk of indoor tanning and melanoma alone. Let’s not promote indoor tanning. There’s no such thing as a safe tan.” Dr. Scott Walter stated via DailyMail.
On the other hand, Dr. Aamna Adel simply commented “Tanning bed” with a crying emoji, which stirred a series of comments from fans. Although amid the backlash, Kardashian had her loyal defenders claiming that the mogul was perhaps using her tanning beds to treat her psoriasis, the influencer was majorly criticized for her harmful practice.
