Ryan Reynolds has shown his tremendous worth time and time again by doing things that others presumed to be rather impossible. Like getting an R-rated Deadpool movie full of savagery, profanity, and NSFW references greenlit from the MCU — something that many thought they could never get. Or like convincing Hugh Jackman to return to his fan-favorite role of Wolverine.
But if there is, indeed, an impossible mission for Reynolds, then it is none other than bringing one Marvel actor back to the franchise: Wesley Snipes. And it’s most certainly not because he can’t do it, no. Rather, it is because he himself wouldn’t want to do it, thanks to Snipes being quite infamous for all the notoriety he showed on the sets of his Blade trilogy.
Expect Anything Except for Ryan Reynolds Bringing Wesley Snipes Back!
The third installment of the Blade film series, i.e. Blade Trinity wouldn’t have been so bitter had it not been for all the reported drama by Wesley Snipes that the cast and crew had to go through behind the cameras just to put the film out on the platform.
And this very behavior is exactly why fans shouldn’t expect Reynolds to bring Snipes back the way he did with Hugh Jackman.
While Snipes is renowned for having a problem with pretty much everyone on the sets of the Vampire Hunter film series, it turns out that Ryan Reynolds was no exception either.
According to what an anonymous executive producer from the saga shared with Chris Parry, not only did Snipes reportedly “treat us all like idiots,” but he didn’t even talk to his co-stars face-to-face and instead had his assistant do it.
As Parry later revealed what the anonymous source told him (via Polygon):
“He refers to Reynolds as ‘that cracker’ ‘tell that cracker to get out of my eyeline,’ and ‘tell that cracker to get his lines right.'”
Seemingly because of this, Reynolds, who starred as Hannibal King in the third film, himself lost all desire to work on yet another Blade installment with Snipes, as he shared in an interview with Première magazine.
Thus, because of all of these reasons, it is only for the better that fans don’t expect their favorite actor to play Wade Wilson to bring Snipes back to the MCU, let alone Deadpool & Wolverine.
How Exactly did Ryan Reynolds Convince Hugh Jackman to Return though?
While it may sound hilarious to many, the real reason why Reynolds was actually able to bring Jackman onboard for Deadpool & Wolverine was by “pestering him like a gnat.” As the actor told ET Canada (via Deadline):
“I mean, I never stopped. I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I actually just think… I believe in timing … and I think he was ready.”
Continuing, he further elaborated on his statement as he said:
“I think he was excited and what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
Well, for what it’s worth, we’re glad Reynolds went so far as to pester Jackman into returning for the third Deadpool film, for Deadpool & Wolverine is one movie that fans just can’t wait anymore to finally see!
