Thanos proved to be a worthy and terrifying antagonist for the Avengers in the Infinity Saga. The MCU had been building up the villain’s imminent arrival in previous Marvel films. He appeared in his full glory in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and he managed to do something unprecedented that none of the villains in previous MCU films achieved.
Thanos managed to win over the Avengers and wipe out half of the beings in the universe to bring balance to the universe and avoid a population explosion. However, one interesting theory suggests that Thanos had an even more terrifying backup plan that seems to fit into the ongoing rumors about Kang’s replacement in the MCU.
A Fan Theory Suggests Thanos Created Galactus Using The Infinity Stones
Josh Brolin made his grand entry as Thanos, pitting himself against the Avengers in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. He was driven by a strong motivation to bring balance to the universe as he believed that it needed a course correction to preserve its limited resources. He planned to erase half of the population of the universe to bring balance and sustainability.
He succeeded in his plans and the universe suffered tremendously due to his actions. While the Avengers managed to reverse Thanos’ actions in Avengers: Endgame, the Mad Titan might have had an even more sinister backup plan according to a fascinating fan theory. According to it (via WatchMojo), Thanos might have secretly created Galactus to further execute his plans.
The theory suggests that Thanos was aware that in the future, the universe would start overpopulating again, Thus, after his victory, he started creating a powerful cosmic entity named Galactus that can consume and devour planets (which he does in the comics). This way, the universe remains in balance and no one suffers due to lack of resources.
It has been rumored that Galactus would come soon in the MCU and this theory is perfect for his origin story. He may be introduced in the upcoming Fantastic Four film and be the primary antagonist of Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars. It will be very interesting if Marvel follows this arc where Thanos will still make his presence felt even after his demise through Galactus.
Josh Brolin Hears Rumbling of a Possible Return of Thanos
Josh Bolin played Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. His performance and voice-over work elevated the character and made him one of Marvel’s best villains. He even returned to voice the character in the What If? series.
While the character itself met his demise in Avengers: Endgame, there have been various rumors of him returning in some way in the Multiverse Saga. Brolin recently revealed that he heard rumblings about the character’s return in the future. He told Comicbook.com,
“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back. And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back”
Marvel could certainly bring back Thanos in its Multiversal storyline. But the character’s arc ended on a satisfying note in Avengers: Endgame. However, anything can happen in the multiverse and one has to wait and see what happens. Fans can watch Brolin’s exceptional portrayal of Thanos in the aforementioned Avengers films on Disney+.
