Growing up in New Zealand, Starr spends his off days doing physical activities such as cycling and surfing, the latter he claims to be his secret to staying lean and flexible.

How Antony Starr Effortlessly Performed Flying Stunts In The Boys

During his interview with Jonatan Blomberg of MovieZine, actor Antony Starr revealed how shooting flying scenes in The Boys was no different from surfing.

One thing that I was really happy… I surfed and so the position that you need to be in lying on a surfboard and paddling is exactly the same position when you’re doing flying scenes.

Indeed, the horizontal position in surfing is quite an easy task for Starr, although flying can also be a bit tricky because there’s only a harness and no board supporting the body. Either way, the actor seems to be comfortable enough to execute the latter.

The muscles in your back that hold you upright, it helps when you’re horizontal. Thankfully that set me up for a very easy time in the wires, which I didn’t expect so because I didn’t really know what to expect coming in so that was a happy accident.

Despite his statement, Starr has been seen on the set freaking out while he was being pulled up high in the air. The actor could have actually handed the job to his body double, but he wanted to prove that he could conquer his fear of heights.

Perhaps he also wanted to test if his surfing skills would come in handy while flying. In the end, Starr managed to pull the stunt off which made him an even more impressive actor.

Antony Starr has always been in love with surfing. As he shared with Men’s Journal, he worked as a lifeguard on one of the beaches around his hometown. Being able to surf taught him to become a strong swimmer.

There’s a reason people fall in love with surfing, and it leads them into a life tangent where being on the waves is all they ever want to do… On the fitness side, it’s just amazing for your whole body, especially your back and shoulders. Those muscles have come in clutch on the set of The Boys—fighting against that suit.

Evidently, fans can see how sculpted and fit his physique is over the silhouette of the costume. The agility and endurance the actor has acquired from years of surfing also became instrumental in performing his stunts for the show.

Starr will return in the fourth season of The Boys this coming June 13th on Prime Video. Three episodes will drop on the premiere day.
