At the recently held Primetime Emmy Awards 2024 ceremony, Succession was one TV show that managed to take home a mighty number of accolades, leaving behind other massively fan-favorite top-rated series like The Last of Us and Better Call Saul in the nomination stage in many fields.
And while Succession fans are swooning with happiness over this news, other fans are not so happy about it at all.
These ‘other fans’ especially include those of the tremendously critically acclaimed Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s 2023 video game-based thriller-drama HBO series.
As much as they admit that Succession is good and thoroughly liked and appreciated by general audiences and critics alike, they also can’t stop feeling that their favorite TV show got snubbed at the Emmys for its most emotional episode, i.e. Long, Long Time.
Fans Aren’t Happy Over Succession Beating The Last of Us
Although HBO’s The Last of Us got nominated for multiple Emmys at the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards 2024, it could only take home eight accolades, with most of the remaining ones getting bagged by Succession.
However, while fans didn’t really feel that bad about other categories, what really stung them was that the thriller-drama series absolutely deserved to win in the Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing categories for a Drama Series.
In both of these categories, the show was nominated for ‘Long, Long Time’, which was the third episode of the nine episodes from season 1. However, instead of the episode scoring the awards, Succession got in the way and stole both the Emmys for its episode ‘Connor’s Wedding’.
Thus, feeling like they got snubbed, fans took to X to share how disheartened they felt to see a win-worthy episode get something else chosen over it. One of these was none other than Kevin Clawson, co-host of the All Pop, No Culture podcast, as he wrote through his X handle @congotim:
Look, I know Succession is great and all, but how did ANYTHING beat The Last of Us episode Long, Long Time for its nominations? That was a PERFECT episode of television.

Besides him, multiple other fans also took to the platform the share their disapproval over the same. Here’s what they wrote:
although i’m bummed ‘long long time’ didn’t get the emmy it deserved for best writing, the last of us is gonna win big in the future believe me #Emmys

So disappointed The Last of Us didn’t win the Emmy for “Long, Long Time.” One of the most memorable episodes of TV ever. @TheLastofUsHBO #TheLastofUs @HBO

the last of us winning ZERO emmys tonight, the anniversary of the premiere, is absolutely bullshit. i don’t doubt succession is a good show but come on. long, long time not even winning for writing ??? bullshit. idc. #emmys

Beautiful ceremony, all well and good. But not awarding Craig Mazin for The Last of Us’ episode "Long, Long Time", and Gordon Smith for Better Call Saul’s "Point and Shoot", as well as @rheaseehorn and @mrbobodenkirk cries out for vengeance.#Emmys

If you are watching the Emmys and maybe did not watch The Last of Us. ‘Long, Long Time’ was a singularly memorable & beautiful & funny episode of television. It was perfection.

Not only was the Long, Long Time episode the longest in the entire series but it also garnered a whopping 6.4 million views in the U.S. alone overnight as soon as it got released on the 29th of January, 2023.
Yet, what’s done is done, and Succession has already won. As for now, The Last of Us fans will only have to make do with the Emmy wins that the show actually ended up winning at the Primetime Emmys, in 2024.

How Many Awards Did The Last of Us Bag At Emmys 2024?
As it turns out, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey‘s The Last of Us managed to get acknowledged at both the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards 2024 for 24 stunning categories.
For the Primetime Emmy Awards in the ‘Drama Series’ major category, these included the sub-categories of Outstanding Drama Series; Lead Actor and Lead Actress; and Directing and Writing, out of which it failed to score any wins.
As for the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in the ‘Drama Series’ major category, it won the awards for Outstanding: Guest Actor (Nick Offerman for “Long, Long Time”); Guest Actress (Storm Reid for “Left Behind”); Prosthetic Makeup; Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie; Main Title Design; Sound Mixing and Sound Editing (One Hour); and Picture Editing.
All in all, out of all the 24 awards it was nominated for in both the normal and Creative Arts fields, HBO’s The Last of Us was only granted 8 accolades. Though it should have been appreciated more, considering its huge critically acclaimed record, even something this small is still better than nothing.
