Invincible co-showrunner Simon Racioppa Held Out Hope to Have a Batman Cameo in the Series

The co-showrunner of Invincible, Simon Racioppa, expressed in an interview that he would love to have a crossover with DC or Marvel.

I’d love to have crossovers with all, with DC, with Marvel, with all these other characters. I mean… in our show you gotta have to wait and see if that’s a thing that can happen or not. I’d love that to happen, you know, is very tricky nowadays, for Marvel they sometimes license their characters to other studios. So crossing over in television is way harder than it is in comic books.” (Via CBR.Com

The Invincible-DC cameo actually took place in the comics. Back in Invincible #33, the comic featured a cameo of Batman when Mark, the hero was sent racing against different dimensions by the antagonist Angstrom Levy. During an encounter, he even ended up meeting Batman, although the character was not visible, it was apparent that it was the Caped Crusader. (via Comic Escape).

I think that sequence might seem to imply a certain thing that isn’t there. That’s not Gotham City. That’s not Batman. That’s a completely different bat character that Mark is referring to.”

He also stated that, if audiences are referring to the character in the finale, there’s nothing he can do about it.

If the audience is inferring a certain thing from it, I don’t have control over that. The audience gets to take from it what they will, but it was never our intention to imply anything remotely close to the Batman character.

Season 2 stars Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, Sterling K. Brown as Angstrom Levy, Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson, and J.K. Simmons as Nolan Grayson, otherwise known as Nowl-Ahn or Omni-Man.
