Hemsworth shared that he had a very unique way of transforming into his unhinged character in the post-apocalyptic world of Furiosa. To achieve this, he had to do something he had never done in his entire acting career.

Chris Hemsworth On His Preparation For Furiosa Villain Role

Speaking with Total Film via Games Radar, actor Chris Hemsworth revealed the one tip director George Miller gave him to seamlessly get into his character.

George suggested to me to journal as the character, which I hadn’t done before. It was 2am one night. I was awake, and I just put pen to paper, and just started scribbling down thoughts and ideas as Dementus.”

The Australian star just let his ideas flow, and as soon as he read what he wrote the morning after, he was surprised. Thankfully, the director also agreed with Hemsworth’s concepts.

I didn’t think much of it. I went to sleep and woke up, and was quite shocked at what came out of me in that half-asleep state. I went into rehearsal and showed George, and we both went, ‘That’s it. That’s the direction we’ve got to go.”

He also remarked how they tried to make the story feel like a continuation even though this is a prequel.

There was a great sense of continuity to what had been done before. But what was exciting was, with a lot of the dialogue, there was a sort of Shakespearean tone to it. It’s an epic tale. You see a real growth and change in the characters or the demise in others. You see the environments they inhabit break down.”

More than that, Hemsworth promised that there would be a lot of actions and violent scenes, which earned the movie “rated R for sequences of strong violence, and grisly images,” as confirmed by Comic Book.

Speaking at CCXP last year, Hemsworth revealed some details about Warlord Dementus. He described the character’s main traits as recorded by Collider’s Steven Weintraub:

He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland, which is the world where the Mad Max saga takes place. He’s a product of his environment. There’s an intensity to him, there’s a brutality.”

Surely, the audience has so much high hopes for the film especially now that it pledged to be as gory and bloody as possible. Mad Max: Fury Road was a raging success, and Furiosa aspires to live up to the expectation.

Fans will finally get to learn the mysterious backstory of Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa and why she became one of the most dangerous warriors in the wasteland.
