Following the controversies surrounding Ezra Miller, which have resulted in the delay of The Flash on several occasions, the movie is finally heading toward its release and will reshape the DC universe. But looking back at Miller’s journey as the Scarlet Speedster in the DCEU, it’s safe to say that they were one of the few positive factors in 2017’s Justice League and even served a greater purpose in the Snyder Cut.

Ezra Miller’s Flash was heavily inspired by Wudang Kung Fu masters

Although Ezra Miller’s future after The Flash is still uncertain, the actor did take some extreme measures to strengthen their version of the Scarlet Speedster. One of these measures involved the actor visiting China to learn martial arts and observe the running style of Wudang Kung Fu masters. On asked how they prepared for the role of Barry Allen, the actor explained the whole process for perfecting his running by stating,

“In the few years leading up to Justice League. I trained in different capacities. practiced martial arts for two years, and even trained for a while in the Wudang mountains in China. To better understand The Flash’s movements.”

But despite the actor’s extreme efforts, the running style of the Flash wasn’t much well received, with many fans not being convinced by Miller’s technique. However, following Andrés Muschietti’s take on the character, it seems that we might witness some shift in the character’s running style in the upcoming The Flash.

The Flash might witness a major shift in Ezra Miller’s running style

Unlike Zack Snyder’s take on The Flash, which saw several shifts in the character’s overall look in comparison to the comics, Andy Muschetti’s take on the character seems more inclined toward the comics. With Muschetti shifting towards a more comic-inspired look for the Scarlet Speedster, it appears that the upcoming movie will also witness a major shift in Miller’s running style.

Although there hasn’t been any substantial sequence of them running in the movie, from observing the brief sequences from the trailer, it’s evident that Muschetti is ditching the character’s previous running style. Unlike Snyder’s version of the character, The Flash seems to comprise a more smooth and more convincing running technique for the fastest man alive.

Following the early reactions of the movie, which have mostly been great, it seems that the upcoming movie will perfectly end the old DCEU to provide a clean slate for the new one. And even though Miller’s inclusion in the new DCU remains uncertain, fans will hope that the character gets the opportunity to serve a bigger purpose in Gunn’s vision for his DC universe.

The Flash is set to release on 16 June 2023.
