Zack Snyder has earned considerable respect and admiration from a lot of his audiences, both for himself as well as his incredible filmmaking skills. But among all the people who commend him on his breathtaking masterpieces and new creative inventions and storylines for his projects, a majority of the massive Star Wars fandom doesn’t seem to be included among his appreciators.
This comes even stronger ever since the mastermind filmmaker’s most recent sci-fi project, the Rebel Moon saga, reached audiences worldwide. Even as one of the most brilliant weapons in his franchise has been inspired by the iconic lightsaber weapon from George Lucas’ universe, the die-hard SW fans don’t sound impressed by Snyder’s technological advancement with the weapon.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Has Failed to Impress Star Wars Fans
Although Snyder really tried to sell it, his Rebel Moon saga still doesn’t seem to come off as pleasing or even impressive to a considerable amount of sci-fi fans (judging from its weak scores on the Tomatometer) — especially to the ones who are die-hard fans of the Skywalker saga.
This stands even after acknowledging the fact that the Man of Steel director ostensibly took inspiration from the original iconic lightsaber from George Lucas‘ universe and technologically advanced them to create his own ‘Oracle Blades’ for his science fiction saga.
While some of the fans admire the smoky effect that Snyder’s weapon leaves off while fighting (like @MyTimeToShineH on X, for instance), others aren’t so optimistic about it. In fact, they are calling it basically a copy of the original legendary Star Wars weapon.
That being said, this harsh criticism started when one fan, @EternityInGamin on X, pointed out that Snyder’s recent sci-fi films are “a huge step in the right direction for Sci-fi.” They also claimed:
“Oracle Blades are so much cooler to look at than Lightsabers.”
Although this statement had some of the fans agreeing that oracle blades are, in fact, considerably cooler and a much more advanced weapon than the one Lucas created decades ago, others rained hell on this Twitter user for even making such a claim.
If anything, they not only dissed Zack Snyder for making such a similar weapon, but a considerable amount of the SW fans even made it evident that they were anything but impressed by the filmmaker’s recently released rubbish sci-fi film series.
Star Wars Fans Aren’t Going Easy on Zack Snyder for “Copying” the Lightsaber
Though Snyder must have obviously wanted to get creative with such an iconic weapon that has been around for so long in its same, original manner, a majority of the die-hard fans of the Skywalker saga don’t seem to be impressed by this move at all.
Amidst all of these opinions and reviews, it’s inevitable to notice how this entire debate has resulted in only one solid conclusion: That the oracle blades are not superior to or better than the weapon George Lucas created, in any way.
All in all, here’s what fans are saying on X:
You are within your rights if you want to say that you like how they are used, but those swords are not better in any way because they are basically a copy. However, I admit that the scene is cool.

I'd say I like Rebel Moon lightsabers 13% of how much I like Star Wars lightsabers

Personally not a fan of this effect. Makes you wonder why the people fighting don't have serious burns all over their body with these sparks flying constantly. Also it really makes the CGI super obvious imo. Yes lightsaber CGI is obvious too, but this is even more so.

Oracle Blade sounds like the name of an off brand lightsaber you found at dollar tree.

Yeah nothing like light sabers at all. Totally original.

You’re not a Star Wars fan clearly. Wanting to change how lightsabers look after almost 50 years of history just Because some cheap knock off “looks cooler” to you? pic.twitter.com/SimZI8eZtC

I love how you specifically pick one of the worst star wars lightsaber duels and it managed to still look better than that stupid oracle sword shit pic.twitter.com/lUdwsSapyq

Oracle blades are literally just lightsabers plus the chronicles of riddick. And if anything, it’s a ripoff of xianxia lol.
Also, it’s a weak argument that a movie is good if your main compliment for said movie is the quality of the effects didn’t suck.
Also straight outa anime

It's just a lightsaber with smoke, it does look cool, but it's the same thing.

Well, judging from this turn of events, it sounds like Snyder will have to do a lot more than just technologically advanced weapons inspired by Lucas’ saga if he truly wishes to impress all of these die-hard SW fans.
Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver are available to be streamed on Netflix.
