If there is one saga that Johnny Depp has been the most affiliated with, it’s none other than the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Even though his other performances have been remarkable as well, none comes even close to his extraordinary portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow — the same role that the 60-year-old star is best recognized for despite having ample other magnificent works.
This is why fans wanted him to return for the sixth installment in the film series, even after Disney notably abandoned him when he needed it the most in the past decade (almost). However, with recent disappointing update reports regarding Depp’s further involvement with the franchise, fans seem to have given up on Pirates of the Caribbean 6 altogether.
Johnny Depp’s Return to Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Faces Disappointing Updates
As of late, ever since Johnny Depp came out victorious in the defamation lawsuit against former wife Amber Heard following their ultra-messy divorce drama, multiple rumors had been surfacing that the Edward Scissorhands star just might reconcile with Disney to do Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
However, with the most recent reports, this situation seems as unlikely as ever. According to the scoop posted by @MyTimeToShineH on X, Disney reportedly does want Depp to come back, but there’s a twist here: They do not want him in the lead.
Since the Pirates of the Caribbean saga has been quite literally led by none other than the cunning Captain Jack Sparrow, this update only hints that if he does return, either Johnny Depp wouldn’t be seen as the fan-favorite pirate or his character would simply be sidelined from the spotlight.
Adding to this are reports that the sixth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga would reportedly be set part in Haiti, i.e. a country in the Caribbean, and that the female protagonist of this film would notably be a Haitian.
I looked into it and Pirates of Caribbean 6 will be set in part in Haiti and the female protagonist will be Haitian. Also they do want Johnny Depp to come back just not as the lead pic.twitter.com/Ayhk390lrw

Well, in the rare case of Johnny Depp’s return, if the situation is one where his character isn’t in the spotlight, then Disney’s sixth Pirates movie would be nothing short of boring without Jack Sparrow in the lead. This is why fans have seemingly given up on Pirates of the Caribbean 6 once and for all.
Fans Give Up on Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Altogether
During his defamation trial, Johnny Depp even addressed the fact of how Disney notably abandoned him when he needed it the most, all the while adding that he would not consider returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean saga even if Disney offered him ‘$300M and a million alpacas’.
Despite this, multiple rumors kept popping up every now and then, making fans once again hopeful to see the 60-year-old heartthrob reprise his much-acclaimed role. However, this recent update of Disney notably sidelining his character isn’t sitting all too well with fans.
Thus, in the events following these reports, fans have given up all the hope they had for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 being yet another good movie from the saga if Disney doesn’t bring back Johnny Depp’s beloved pirate in the lead.
To express their honest reviews on how the sixth installment from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise would be if the events continue to unfold the way they are expected to as per these reports, here’s what fans are saying on X:
This movie is going to tank. Can’t do a pirates movie without Depp as the star.

People use to like POTC because of Johnny, Keira and Orlando. They took the last two and the series suffered a lot. Now they’re taking the lead role away from Johnny, that was the only reason for many people to keep up with the franchise. I don’t get it.

So they don't want him in a leading role but in a supporting, because they hope he can save the movie? NO! Let Disney find out the hard way that there is no Pirates of the Caribbean without Captain Jack #NoJohnnyNoPirates

nope nope nope nope nope #DisneySucks Johnny Depp is my only captain , he should be the lead I hope it tanks #NoJohnnyNoPirates

Judging from all these fan reactions, if Disney indeed wants to save the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, then bringing Johnny Depp back once again in the lead as Captain Jack Sparrow is the only way. Other than that, the future of the saga would be just what fans’ are saying: Tanked!
