Kirsten Dunst’s upcoming movie Civil War is already worrying fans about the probability of the events captured in the film happening in real life. Many have expressed their fear of living in a time where they would experience another form of rebellion as vividly as the ones written in history.
Written and directed by Alex Garland, the movie follows a journalist played by Spider-Man actress Kirsten Dunst as she makes her way across the divided states of America. The authoritarian president will be portrayed by Nick Offerman.
Civil War Director Explains The Conflict In The Movie
After the trailer was released, many fans felt confusion regarding how the conflict works between ‘Western Forces of Texas and California’ and director Alex Garland simply explained via Empire:
“That’s embedded in the film. I tend not to spell things out in films. I sometimes feel overly spoon-fed by cinema, and so I probably just react against that. That question, why Texas and California, is a question that I want the audience to ask.”
The geographical and political landscapes of America will be tackled in the film, but not under the science fiction genre that Garland is known for. This time, he wants the narrative to be more grounded, so it follows the story of a journalist played by Kirsten Dunst.
“Journalists are vilified, often, by all sorts of different people. By politicians, by the public. It’s not necessarily a side of a political spectrum, and the truth is that if you want a government with checks and balances, you need journalists. In the inferences within the film, one of them is an inference about journalists, and about how important they are.”
This A24 dystopian action film is indeed a very serious and significant work that not only informs the public but also warns them of the possibility of it happening in real life amid the violence that’s currently plaguing the country.
Kirsten Dunst’s Upcoming Movie Terrifies The Public
A fan from Reddit called thelaughingmansghost penned a comment that expressed frustration over the likeliness of another war happening within the states.
“The idea of another American civil war happening today actually keeps me up at night. It’s a truly disturbing scenario to think of because how it would up end everyone’s lives and practically be the death of America as we know it.”
The user also quipped that the film is not something they would fancy watching in theaters. The idea alone horrifies them enough to skip the show.
“This is a movie that I want to keep far away from. Even if it’s based on a political scenario so far removed from our own. I just do not want to entertain the notion of something so horrible.”
There is indeed a debate about the release of the movie, with some claiming it is being used to program people and prepare for what is about to come. Still, historians believe an armed conflict will unlikely happen though it does not mean no other conflicts will arise.
Civil War will arrive in theaters on April 12, 2024.
