Madame Web was among the most anticipated superhero movies of 2024. Not because the movie seemed interesting but more because of its concept and the live adaptation of one of the most intriguing characters in the Spider-verse. While Dakota Johnson did somewhat of a good job, receiving mixed reactions, the movie has been yet another failed entry into the long list of failed Marvel movies, that has significantly increased since the last year.

Yet, fans are not ready to say goodbye to the character. Not wanting Johnson to reprise the role, fans want another DC actress to take over the crown and resemble a more comic-accurate version of the psychic mutant. And that one actress is none other than Helen Mirren.

With the number of comic book characters being adapted on-screen increasing day by day, fans have had their own ideas of casting that they want to come true. And it is the same when it comes to the mystical psychic, Madame Web.

Portrayed by Dakota Johnson in the recently released movie, Madame Web, her casting did not fit right with Marvel fans. Cassandra Webb has always been depicted as an elderly figure, legally blind, bound to an intricate wheelchair, providing her with life support and additional help (see Marvel.com). Yet Johnson was neither shown as blind, handicapped, or old, which irked many fans no matter Sony’s origin story narrative.

While they have been welcoming of the inclusion of Madame Webb in the whole Marvel narrative, even though her connections with the MCU are unknown, they want a more comic book-accurate version of the character (see X). And who better than the DC star Helen Mirren to play the fascinating character?

With exemplary acting prowess and a commanding on-screen presence, Mirren has both the looks and the talent to star as Madame Web. Not only does she have a roaster of iconic roles favoring her casting, but the fan appeal she holds makes her the best choice for the comic-book version of the clairvoyant superhero.

Helen Mirren has been in the industry for several years, portraying some of the most intriguing and unforgettable characters of all time. Not only does she possess an incredible acting range, seamlessly transforming into any character she plays, but also possesses the natural charisma and gravitas needed to portray such a titular role.

When her fan casting went viral on the internet, several users and fans reacted in the affirmative, voicing their support for the actress in case Sony ever brings her on board in the future.
