In an interview with the stars of Twisted Metal, FandomWire got to know more about what led to such an interesting connection between the two. The conversation started off as a focus on both Stephanie Beatriz and Anthony Mackie’s insights into the upcoming season of the show, and along the lines, we uncovered some interesting stories behind the duo’s relationship over the years.
The two’s sense of humor and their orientation toward all things wacky and unusual are the highlights of the series. Naturally, a question about the script and what Stephanie onboard was answered by a hilarious decision that came as a byproduct of the two’s chemistry.
Knowing Anthony, Stephanie ‘saved’ the Show by Getting Onboard
The conversation started out with a question about Stephanie’s experience working on the show and what it was like given the lack of story-driven gameplay from Twisted Metal to begin with. Surprisingly, she was more than eager to jump on board and had even read the script before Anthony was involved.
Based on her response, it was a great choice, since she knew Quiet and John’s chemistry was going to have to be something excellent. She was more than ready:
I love movies where two characters have two work together despite the fact they are a complete mismatch and as the film goes on, you end up completely on their side because they are this motley crew of two.
Stephanie went on to tell us about her experience working with Anthony during the initial days of Twisted Metal’s filming:
I did a chemistry test with Anthony and he was a complete idiot, so I was like “well I gotta sign on now to save this show.” No, I did a screen test with Anthony and it became very clear that we had similar sensibility with how we like to work and with how free we are with comedy and fun on set and I thought it was really going to work. And I think that it does.
It’s no surprise that John and Quiet’s relationship throughout the show evolves so naturally, given how the actors knew exactly what they signed up for.
Twisted Metal’s Next Season Will Keep Telling the Tale of this Dynamic Duo
Whether it’s a thoughtful juggle between Twisted Metal’s source material (or the lack thereof), or the standalone narrative the show is trying to unfold, the interview gave us a clear picture of how the show will keep doing what it does best.
Insane vehicular gimmicks and crazy psychopaths are all part of the big picture and the new season of Twisted Metal.
If things stay the same, we’ll continue having great TV shows based on video games.
