Star Wars Outlaws is almost here for the public to experience. It’s not in a galaxy far away, but right here in the Milky Way, that the anticipation for Ubisoft’s upcoming game is reaching hyperdrive levels.
Outlaws promises to deliver an immersive experience that draws inspiration from all corners of the iconic franchise. However, after spotting a statement from the game’s narrative director, Navid Khavari, people are concerned about a specific inclusion in the game that could spell its disaster.
Star Wars Outlaws Includes Elements from a Controversial Movie
During a 2023 interview with Game Informer, Khavari talked about the Ashiga Clan, a new syndicate introduced in Star Wars Outlaws. Created through a collaboration between Massive and Lucasfilm Games, the Ashiga Clan operates from the ice-cold planet of Kijimi.
You’ll recognize this if you’ve watched Rise of the Skywalker, a very divisive film among fans.
The Ashiga Clan is depicted as a strong syndicate with a strict code of honor, operating within a hierarchical Melitto hive structure. Their presence is very much a part of Kijimi’s underworld, from smuggling to weapon manufacturing.
Khavari reassures that his team is working closely together with Lucasfilm to ensure a good experience for both longtime fans and new players:
The details matter so much in this galaxy, so we always want to make sure we’re capturing the spirit of Star Wars in everything we do.
He mentions that they want to do everything in their power to do justice to the original trilogy.
So, while this connection to a film that received mixed reviews and faced backlash from a lot of people is raising eyebrows, it’s hard to judge how it’ll turn out until we see it in action.
Outlaws’ Narrative Director Has a Long History with the Franchise
Khavari isn’t a newcomer to the series, if that eases your hesitation at all. His personal history with Star Wars, from when he was a child, was a source of bonding and escapism within his family.
As fans await the release of the game, it remains to be seen whether the game will turn out to be something like Rise of the Skywalker or make a completely new name for itself.
