It’s hard to say if the fans have gotten over The Great Web trauma or not but they are still likely to be disappointed in Sony. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 publisher kept the cards close to their chest and canned the project which then saw outrage rise among the fans after its trailer was leaked on the internet. What could’ve been a multiversal game now appears lost to corporate affairs.
The trailer was leaked last month and fans realized they have been robbed of a dream. Modders are always up to something and now one video of Spider-Man 2 mod may add salt to the wounds of the ones that are yet to be healed.
For Chaos Seekers Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Does Look Fun That Way
A standalone Venom game called Lethal Protector was revealed last year by Insomniac Games but fans should expect it to arrive sometime next year. However, there isn’t any shortage of content associated with the symbiotic entity. In a recent video shared over the internet, users can see the antihero fighting ‘himself’ in a modded version of SM2.
“Venom vs venom in The city,” the post reads. Although it wasn’t associated with the canceled live-service game in any way, many fans could speculate a scenario emerging in what could’ve been the best SM game. However, the leaked trailer of the game didn’t present the antihero as a playable character.

The user dubbed Diego shared the video to show an interesting glitch that happened during the mod’s gameplay. After fighting on the city streets full of symbiotic goo, the characters decide to go head-on. Nevertheless, the act ‘hooked’ the characters and the player decides to take a tour of the city together, how romantic.
What Did We Lose? As a Spider-Man Fan? Apparently Everything
It may not have lived to see the light of day but the canceled SM game might have kept the promises on several open-ended stories from Spider-Man 2. One of the series antagonists called Chameleon might have made it to the now-canned game’s main storyline. Moreover, Madame Web had a major part to play in the game too, which is obvious given that it focused on the multiverse.
Sony might have swung the axe fallaciously to chop its own leg. Even before its potential arrival, some statistics indicated it was already a success. Hopefully, Sony hasn’t chopped its leg in its entirety so it can heal. But of course, if they ever realize what they lost.
We cannot say that the game has been scrapped completely or it has been preserved as a card to be played at some point in the future. If it ever comes to fruition in the future, then it may have become crystal to Sony how much potential the game holds after the fans’ reaction to the trailer.
