Steven Yeun has scored a lot of commendation-worthy roles, but none comes close to his exceptional voiceover of Mark Grayson in the animated Invincible web series. For one that serves the story of a normal teenager whose father is Omni-Man and who struggles with his father’s legacy as he develops powers of his own to save the world, this series has earned massive critical acclaim.
However, even through such tremendous reception, the adult animated series still had one thing that earned a lot of criticism, especially for the currently ongoing second season: The unbearably long break in between. But Yeun has once again stepped up to seemingly assure fans that this criticism won’t be repeated in the third season of the series.
Steven Yeun seemingly assures that season 3 won’t repeat the same criticism
The first season of Steven Yeun‘s Invincible was released back in March 2021, and fans were utterly exhilarated with it as its eight episodes concluded on the 29th of April, 2021. However, after the special episode was released in July of the same year, fans had to undergo a painfully long wait that lasted for almost one and a half years before getting season 2.
If that wasn’t enough, fans were left utterly devastated when they finally got season 2 in November 2023 after finding out that they were only going to get four episodes of that season in that month, and the remaining four would be released almost four months later by March 2024. Thus, because of this inevitably big break, the series tremendous criticism despite its global acclaim.
However, while the remaining four episodes of season 2 will reportedly start releasing weekly every Thursday from the 14th of March, 2024, Mark Grayson’s voice actor is all set to assure fans that the incredibly prolonged period that season 2 had them wait for won’t be repeated with the definitely-happening-soon season 3.
Talking to Collider recently, Yeun said:
“For us, we know that this big break was not fun. We’ve been working hard to get a lot of backlog done. We wanna time this animation thing appropriately. So, yeah, we’ve been working. We’re banking episodes, we know what’s going on.”
Moreover, before Yeun, the series creator Robert Kirkman had also expressed that there wouldn’t be as long of a break between seasons 2 and 3 as there was between 1 and 2. Explaining to Collider about the same, he said, “Far enough along that there won’t be a similar gap between Season 2 and Season 3,” before adding:
“This is the pain. This area right now is the pain for Invincible fans. So once we’re through this, once Season 2 comes out, hopefully, it should be smooth sailing from there on. There won’t be these big, large gaps, theoretically.”
Thus, for now, fans need to rest assured that the inevitably long time they had to wait to watch season 2 of their favorite series was a one-time thing only, and will not be repeated, as shared by both the actor and creator of the web series.
Fans are now hopeful for Invincible Season 3
Ever since Yeun further added to Robert Kirkman’s assurance about the series, fans have seemingly started to have more faith in both the series as well as its creators. Taking to X, here’s how they are sharing their hopeful reactions to this news:
The break was not great, and neither was the wait for S2 but i’m 100% sure they’ve learned from that and are making sure it goes smoothly going forward. Can’t wait

I love the show a lot. The break was unnecessary especially for an 8 episode season series. But I trust they are cooking and hopefully season 3 continues the hype fans have.

next time just delay the season don't split it up

Honestly it’s been awful during the break.
I don’t mind only releasing an episode a week, but I can’t get behind a part 1 months between part 2 release schedule.
I know it was what had to be done at the time but appreciate them making efforts to eliminate that from happening…

Thank god

Don’t ever skip 3 months for us to wait for the rest of season 2 again

From what can be deciphered from all these reviews, if season 3 indeed goes without such long breaks and gets released weekly the same way as season 1, then there is the chance of the third season of Invincible even breaking streaming records, for what it’s worth!
Invincible can be streamed on Prime Video.
