After months of rumors and misdirects, fans finally got to see the three Spider-Men Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland share the screen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been speculating where Peter Parker’s journey would lead him. With the whole world forgetting who Peter Parker was, including his friends, Holland’s Parker was seen in a new suit in a new place without any support, restarting his vigilante activities.

Though there have been no new updates about when Spider-Man 4 will be released, Tom Holland recently opened up about the stage at which the fourquel was, at the Sands International Film Festival. He said (via Deadline),

“We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.”

With Marvel receiving criticisms for its creative direction in its last few projects, and films such as The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania bombing at the box office, it is natural for Tom Holland to be cautious about how the follow-up to one of the biggest cinematic experiences of the decade would be treated.

When Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in 2021, the pandemic was a rage and many theaters were trying to survive the lockdown. The film attracted many fans with its nostalgia and iconic moments and delivered what the fans wanted. The film earned a total of $1.9 billion at the global box office (via The Numbers).

Despite a slightly tragic ending, the film was lauded for its performance and treatment of all the characters. Apart from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, many classic characters from previous iterations made an appearance, including Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus.

With such a legacy to protect, Tom Holland has been reportedly involved in the creative process at the development stage of Spider-Man 4. The actor has been known to give several ideas on set in terms of his performance that have often made the cut, including his tear-jerking death scene in Avengers: Infinity War (via GQ). The actor said to Deadline,

The actor has also reportedly been involved in a number of projects as a producer. The actor was last seen in the miniseries The Crowded Room, before which he headlined Sony’s Uncharted.
