A lot of franchises make the mistake of continuing to make more sequels or more seasons until they see a significant decline in their rating or viewers. However, the lead of the satirical comedy series Succession, Brian Cox has a different opinion when it comes to when should a franchise end. Succession also came to an end last year after its spectacular four-season run leaving the fans quite dejected.
Now, in a recent interview, Brian Cox finally broke the silence about the future of the franchise and revealed that he just might be willing to make another movie of the series.
Brian Cox talks about the future of Succession
Brian Cox recently opened up about the future of Succession in an interview with Variety and revealed that there’s still hope for maybe a movie to finally wrap up the franchise for good. He said,
“If it’s good enough and [series creator] Jesse Armstrong wants to do it, I might do it.“
Succession came to an end last year at the peak of its viewership numbers and it might be a good thing after all. A lot of series have ended at their peak in the past but it is a good thing in the long run as it leaves the possibilities for future spin-offs and movies. For instance, Breaking Bad also ended after 5 seasons but it left a window for its spin-off Better Call Saul to thrive. In the same manner, Brian Cox believes that they have left the fans to keep wanting more of the series. He opened up about the ending of the series and said,
“What I love about it and what I love about Jesse Armstrong is we don’t go past our sell-by date. A lot of American shows do go past their sell-by dates. We’ve left people wanting. You always want to keep people wanting.”
The creator of the series, Jesse Armstrong reveals his feelings about the ending of Succession
Before the premier of the fourth season of Succession, Jesse Armstrong appeared for an interview with the New Yorker and revealed how he felt about ending the series after its strong run of four seasons. Armstrong revealed that he discussed the future of the show before writing the script for season 4 and found that they could either do the series for 2 more seasons at best or just keep dragging out the series until everyone eventually gets bored of it. Armstrong revealed that he did not like the latter idea at all and would rather “do something a bit more muscular and complete and go out sort of strong.” Armstrong further talked about whether he would revisit the show for a future movie or spin-off and said,
“I do think that this succession story that we were telling is complete…I have caveated the end of the show, when I’ve talked to some of my collaborators, like: Maybe there’s another part of this world we could come back to, if there was an appetite? Maybe there’s something else that could be done, that harnessed what’s been good about the way we’ve worked on this. So that is another true feeling.”

The lead stars of the shows, Brian Cox and Kieran Culkin were even nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award at this year’s PrimeTime Emmy Awards and Culkin won. Jesse Armstrong also won the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and became the first person to win an Emmy Award in the same category for all seasons of a show.
