Helldivers 2 is an incredible game; there’s no doubt about this. This game owes its growing success to a bunch of factors. The fact that this game is so approachable and easy to get into is one of the factors. The fact that its developers are continuously allowing this game to grow in unexpected directions is another. Not only are PlayStation 5 and PC owners loving it, but Xbox owners are also asking for its release on their preferred console.
The best part about Helldivers 2 is its ever-growing nature. This game is continuously changing thanks to its special scenario director, Joel. Its popularity is such that developers are already getting requests for a crossover. Whom should they go with?
What game should Helldivers 2 cross over with?
It’s nothing new if a developer decides to cross over their title with some other game. It never hurts a game; it only expands its player base in several ways. That’s why, even though Helldivers 2 is without a doubt a very successful game already, it would only attract more players if a crossover happened.
So, what game should Arrowhead Game Studios go with? Of course, there are a bunch of live service games out there that would work. But there are very few that would make sense in terms of crossover. Helldivers 2 is a hardcore sci-fi game with a massive galactic conflict at its heart. Gamers would no doubt want some games to be somewhat similar yet different enough for such an event.
One such game is Deep Rock Galactic, a first-person co-op game launched back in 2020 for PC and Xbox One. By 2022, this game will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and next-generation Xbox consoles too. The game was so successful that it has already sold over 8 million copies across all platforms.
Recently, the developers from Ghost Ship Games, the studio that made Deep Rock Galactic, streamed Helldivers 2 on Twitch. When they were asked why they were streaming that game, they admitted that they were trying to attract the attention of Arrowhead Game Studios so they could talk about a crossover.
“We emailed Arrowhead a while back to say, ‘hey guys, let’s put our heads together and do something’ but we haven’t heard back from them yet via email so this is our next shot. We couldn’t think of any other way to do it than to play their game live on stream and say ‘Arrowhead, what are you guys doing? Please answer our email – let’s talk, let’s put our heads together and see if we can cook something up’ so consider this our little invite to you.”
This is indeed a nice gesture; it remains to be seen if Arrowhead Game Studios will ever reply. Of course, an ever-changing game with a dynamic world can no doubt add some new stuff, but it all depends on what decision the developers end up taking.
Warframe would be a far better contender for a crossover, though
While Ghost Ship games continue their attempt to get the attention of Arrowhead Game Studios, there’s another game that would be the best option for a crossover. Warframe has been on the market for years, and it has evolved from being a decent sci-fi co-op live service game to something massive and special.
This game is now on pretty much every known platform, and fans would no doubt want to see it cross over into the world of Helldivers 2. Then again, at the end of the day, this decision is for Arrowhead Game Studios to make.
